Charlie is a passionate, sensually-inspired art student, desperately seeking an escape from the abusive past that haunts her and a tragic accident that emptied her heart. Scarred and unable to love, her yearning for physical pleasure leads her into a tantalizing, dangerous world of power and seduction. The anonymity of the deal offers security; the money brings financial freedom and the madam is the mother figure she longs for.

But the thrill of the mansion and its arousing dominance quickly fades when she meets renowned-yet-mysterious Cameron Hardy, whose intense baby blue eyes send a nervous flutter through her core. Cameron is sexy, and not in a subtle way. He stimulates Charlie’s art, her intellect and her desires. Just as he begins to break through her emotional boundaries, she discovers a devastating connection between her past and her scandalous work at the mansion, shattering everything she thought to be true.

Provocative, intoxicating and erotic, Seductive Shadows is the unforgettable tale of a young woman’s self-discovery as she learns to forgive, to love and be loved, and to find redemption amidst a remarkable journey that will captivate your mind and stimulate your soul.

This book is for mature audiences. It contains explicit language and sexual content.

My Review

This is one of those books where I was glad I trudged through the beginning. I really did not think I was going to care for this book. I even questioned if I should keep reading. It seemed as if the whole book was going to be about Charlie’s obsession with sex. It was an unhealthy obsession at that. But, the story became so much more.

You slowly get to see all of the horrible ways Charlie became who she is. You are also introduced to a string of guys, and you’re left wondering if one, and which one, will be the key to her straightening out her life and becoming the person she wants to be. But, there’s a major twist that I NEVER saw coming, and then more twists that continue to make this novel so much more. Towards the end there are some very intense tear jerking scenes.

Other than not caring for the very beginning of the novel (which is completely necessary to the story – I’d feel different about it after reading the book all the way through), I was also confused at the start on the way the story shifted from present to past. It was really only one scene that threw me, though. She was on a train and then not, and I missed the change. I also got aggitated with her going back to the mansion she worked in, even after deciding not to work there anymore. That wasn’t a problem with the writing, just my own personal preference on what I wanted the character to do.

I’m so glad I trudged through the beginning. It really was so much more than I though it would be! I look forward to reading more from Marni Mann!!
