But by chance, on an urgent errand for Queen Alexandria herself, Wynn finds she has fallen into the hands of the one man she so hopelessly fled from. Now his captive, Wynn must guard her secret and that of her kingdom, or risk bringing forth a dark age not seen in hundreds of years.

My Review

Ugh!!! Let me start by saying that I’m so glad the author informed me that the sequel should be coming out later this year. It has an ending that will leave you begging for more!

I also want to comment on the cover. I usually don’t, but I wanted to as it may affect someone like it did me. I like the cover and after reading the book, I get it. However, before reading the book, I would have assumed it was a different kind of book. So, make sure you read the synopsis to see what this book is really about – a witch, a warlord, love, and power.

Wynn is the first witch to come around for a hundred years. She has worked hard at keeping her secret. However, she uses her gifts as a spy. In this line of work Wynn found herself being hired by the queen. Wynn accepts the mission, but she keeps in mind that she has to keep an eye out for the warlord. History states that the warlord always kills the witch and takes her power. On this mission for the queen, Wynn finds herself taken prisoner by the exact person she’s trying to avoid. She soon finds, though, that King Gethin (the warlord) isn’t the person she thought he would be. It seems nothing else is as she’s been taught her whole life either.

The book has a nice smooth pace throughout. The characters were well-developed keeping in mind the mystery that was necessary for the plot. You feel a whole plethora of emotions as you travel through the story with Wynn. The storyline was very intriguing, and I never knew what was going to happen. I certainly didn’t see the ending playing out the way it did.

I give this book a solid 4 stars!!!! I really enjoyed the plots and the characters. The story lacked a major WOW factor, but it was definitely one I thoroughly enjoyed and can’t wait to read more of!
