About Angela Corbett

As a child, Angela Corbett’s most prized possession was a set of read-along books. She used to follow along with the narrator on the stereo and dream of when she would be able to read by herself. Her childhood reading habit led her to consider her future career. However, after consulting with her parents, she realized she had already exceeded hobbit height and since fairies and dragonslayers were tricky jobs to get, she decided she wanted to create worlds of her own. She started writing poetry in elementary school and worked as a journalist in high school and college, but could never leave her love for writing fiction behind.

She is a graduate of Westminster College where she double majored in communication and sociology. She has worked as a journalist, freelance writer, and director of communications and marketing. She loves classic cars, traveling, and escaping in a good book. She lives in Utah with her incredibly supportive husband and their five-pound Pomeranian, Pippin, whose following of fangirls could rival Justin Bieber’s.

Eternal Starling is her debut novel and the first book in the Emblem of Eternity trilogy.

Review ~ Marked: A House of Night Novel

The House of Night series by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird’s world, vampyres have always existed. In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire–that is, if she makes it through the Change. Not all of those who are chosen do. It’s tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school’s most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny–with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

My ****4 STAR**** Review

I checked this one out at the library. I tend to be a fan of YA paranormal/romance and this seemed to be up my alley. I’m giving this 4 stars, but I had my ups and downs with it. I enjoyed the storyline, the flow of the story, and the writing style. It never felt like it was dragging either. The thing that was hardest for me to read through (have to admit I almost put the book down a couple times) was the hatred displayed through Zoey for people with differing opinions from her. Now granted, I could completely understand her feelings towards her step-father and in turn, her mother, who quit acting like a mother. But, Zoey tended to stereotype , and spew such hatred towards certain groups of people that it was just hard for me to read sometimes. I did totally sympathize with her character and the things she was going through, though. The author did a good job of making me feel what Zoey was feeling. I have to say that without the hatred she displayed, I would have LOVED this story. As it is, I had a love/hate relationship with the book. So, I’m continuing to read the series for now. I’ll just have to see if that aspect gets any better.

Review ~ The White Aura (The White Aura Series)

How do you live with the gut clenching truth that the one you love will die if you meet them? Twenty year old sorcerer Scott Tabors is learning how. After seeing seventeen year old Olivia Whitehead outside of a coffee shop, his heart will never be the same. He longs for her, he wants her, and he knows she will be his. They are heart mates. …but due to a curse on his family, he can’t meet her. Not yet. So for now, he visits her in her dreams. Her dreams where he can tell her everything but his name.

Olivia Whitehead is a typical junior in high school. She and her best friend are having the time of their lives, but she can’t help but notice the changes happening to her. Especially the changes in her heart after she begins dreaming about a mysterious dark haired young man. But what will happen when the school heartthrob decides he wants Olivia? Will she realize the dream man is real or will she move on?

My ***3 STAR*** Review

Olivia Whitehead is in love with the guy of her dreams – literally. She feels such an intense connection to him that he feels real. She can’t share this with anyone because they may just think she’s crazy. Little does she know that the man of her dreams has a name, Scott Tabors, and they have been dream-sharing. Scott can’t show himself to Olivia, though. There’s a curse on his family, and if Olivia falls in love with Scott too early, she’ll die. Plus, there’s another guy on the scene that is hell-bent on taking Olivia for himself.

Overall I enjoyed this story. Chapter by chapter the point of view switches between Olivia and Scott. I liked getting to see what they were both experiencing and feeling. The story had a nice flow, and I enjoyed the storyline. However, there were a couple places where the dialogue seemed stilted, and some of their actions didn’t make sense to me. I think some more editing would have greatly improved the quality of the story. I got this book free on Amazon so considering, it was definitely worth the time spent reading it. I’m definitely interested in the next book of the series. There were a lot of questions left unanswered, and it intrigued me enough to keep reading!

The second book in the series, The Vessel, is already available.

Review ~ The Warlock (Waterspell #1)

Drawn into the schemes of an angry wizard, Carin glimpses the place she once called home. It lies upon a shore that seems unreachable. To learn where she belongs and how to get there, the teenage traveler must decipher the words of an alien book, follow the clues in a bewitched poem, conjure a dragon from a pool of magic — and tread carefully around a seductive but volatile, emotionally scarred sorcerer who can’t seem to decide whether to love her or kill her.

My ***3 STAR*** Review

Okay, I often give my own small blurb about a book at the start of a review, but I’ll spare you this time. I’m sure you are capable of reading the blurb for yourself, and after reading my review, hopefully you’ll see that I ENCOURAGE you to make sure you read it!

After reading the first chapter, I was very intrigued. I could tell right away that this book would be different from the norm. I wasn’t disappointed as far as that goes! You quickly learn that there’s a big connection with Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass. The whole story is full of magic and mystery! Carin finds herself in one predicament after another. There were a couple times that I questioned Verek’s actions, but they later made sense.

After I’d finished a quarter of the book, I still found myself intrigued, but I wouldn’t say so much that I couldn’t put the book down. There were times when I felt the slightest bit of excitement that the warlock Verek may be falling for Carin. Then that idea would be squashed. I would have saved myself a lot of trouble if I would have read the blurb. I typically do not read them because I like to be surprised. But, I felt something was missing with the story. I felt that Carin and Verek should be drawn together, and I’d see hints of it happening. There was no real hope, though. I must confess here that I scrolled to the end of book 2 to see if my hopes had any foundation. All I had to do was read the blurb, though. Now in hindsight, I’d just say that the one thing that would have made this a 4 star book for me would have been for the signs of something blooming between Verek and Carin to have been a bit stronger. Not too strong, just enough to be sure that’s where the story was heading – without having to read the blurb (or in my case – skimming the end of the second book). I needed a clearer picture of the conflict.

The story dragged a little for me about three-quarters of the way through, but this probably wouldn’t have been the case if I knew where the story was going at the time. One thing I want to comment on, although irrelevant to many I’m sure, is that I thoroughly enjoyed the way Verek studied Through the Looking-Glass – going so far as to reinact the chess game. Being a book lover, I loved this. Okay, I confess, I can be a bit of a nerd.

Things started picking up for me rather quickly after the slight slump. I found myself thoroughly engrossed in the story after Carin finds a book that reveals a lot of Verek’s past. From that point on I couldn’t put the book down. As far as the ending goes – I would have been dying if I didn’t already have the second book loaded onto my kindle. I had to IMMEDIATELY open it to see what was happening!

So, I give it a rating of 3 stars. I’m 17% of the way through the second book right now, and I’m very much looking forward to the rest of the series. Now that I have a clear picture of the main conflict (between Carin and Verek), I expect to enjoy the rest of it even more. For a first book (in this genre), I think it is great! I look forward to future stories!

She left the farm to earn a degree in journalism and write award-winning books of history and biography. High on her Bucket List was the desire to try her hand at the genre she most admired. The result is WATERSPELL, a multi-layered fantasy about a girl and the wizard who suspects her of being so dangerous to his world, he believes he’ll have to kill her … which troubles him, since he’s fallen in love with her. Review ~ Secrets and Lies (a Cassie Scot novel)

Official Home Page

Release Date: October 2013

Cassie Scot, still stinging from her parents’ betrayal, wants out of the magical world. But it isn’t letting her go. Her family is falling apart and despite everything, it looks like she may be the only one who can save them.
To complicate matters, Cassie owes Evan her life, making it difficult for her to deny him anything he really wants. And he wants her. Sparks fly when they team up to find two girls missing from summer camp, but long-buried secrets may ruin their hopes for happiness.

Read the first chapters HERE!!

My ****4 Star**** Review

First, let me say that this is the second book in the Cassie Scot series. If you haven’t read the first book – STOP HERE!! This book picks up right after the first and will definitely spoil things for you. You can check out my review on the first book HERE.

So, after the big cliffhanger at the first one, things start pretty calmly in book 2. Evan’s father, Victor, and Evan’s best friend/cousin, Scott Lee, both think that Evan should just force Cassie to marry him. Evan on the other hand realizes that he has botched the proposal by making it sound like a command. He wants Cassie to come to him rather than forcing his hand.

Cassie is still quite determined to figure things out for herself. She gets a job at Kaitlin’s Diner, but that job doesn’t last long at all. This leaves Cassie in an even worse predicament, but then it turns out both her family and Evan’s need her. Two teenage girls have gone missing from a summer camp. One is a distant Scot cousin, while the other is a distant Blackwood cousin.

After taking on the case, Sheriff Adams finds he needs her expertise back on the job for an entirely different matter. Oh, and something is very wrong with her family. He mother has become extremely ill among other issues.

Now for my opinion… I’ll start with what I felt was the most improved upon – the mystery. I really enjoyed the cases that Cassie was a part of. The right amount of clues were given to keep you guessing, but not so much that I could figure things out. I’m usually not a mystery person, but I was intrigued!

Okay, so I’m a big sucker for a love story, and you can really feel the love between Cassie and Evan. Cassie will finally admit her feelings for Evan, but there’s something BIG keeping them apart. This BIG something leaves you with another whopper of a cliffhanger, and now I’m left freaking out about the finish!! Too bad I can’t say more here – you’ll just have to read it!!

So, if you enjoyed the first story, I definitely think you’ll enjoy this one. The mystery was even better in this second book. What makes this a 4 star rather than a 5 star for me? Well, a 5 star for me is something the touches me in such a strong way, the it just won’t leave me. The one thing that was missing for me that would have boosted this on up there was emotions. Now don’t get me wrong, I laughed, I felt scared, there were times I felt my heart melting, and others I felt my heart breaking. The story definitely evoked emotions in me! But, it just isn’t one of those stories that evokes extreme emotions. Just for the record, I don’t think every story should. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and I can’t come up with anything I’d change. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book!! There are four books to this series, and they have all been written. Christine hopes to have all four out by next summer. We can also expect a spin-off on Madison. If we’re lucky we’ll get one on Kaitlin, too!
*I recieved a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.*

•There is more romance in this book than in the first.
•Cassie will learn something about her mom that she never knew before.
•Madison and Kaitlin will both become more important, developing subplots of their own (that will eventually spin off into their own novels).
•Angie is not in this book.
•Long-time enemies Victor Blackwood (Evan’s father) and Edward Scot (Cassie’s father) will meet face to face in this book. The results may be explosive.
•You will learn a bit more about why Victor and Edward hate one another.

According to her mother, Olivia Pembroke was born to be a star. But how is she supposed to be famous when she can’t even get a decent acting gig? Her lucky break comes when she lands an audition for a wildly popular home improvement show. Even though she has no design training and has never even held a power tool, she refuses to let that stop her. She’s confident that her destiny is finally within reach.

When her affections are torn between her heartthrob co-host and the irritating, yet somehow endearing lead contractor, does she continue to reach for the stars? Or does she design a new happily ever after? One that leads not to the fading lights of fame and fortune, but to a love that will burn forever.

Silver Linings by Kaylee Baldwin

Drew Westfall wants nothing more than to forget what he had to do in the name of “smart” business. Cutting off all ties with his parents—including handing over the entire contents of his trust fund to a charity—he takes off for Bridger, Colorado where his best friend has an extra room for him. It doesn’t take long for him to realize that his business degree won’t do him much good in a town as small as Bridger, but he’s broke and has nowhere else to go.

Eden Torresi has every reason to wallow. Not only did she lose her mother, but she had to drop out of nursing school and is in a relationship with a guy unwilling to commit. But Eden isn’t the wallowing type. Instead, she chooses to spend most of her time taking care of the seniors at Silver Linings Nursing home. When she learns that her boyfriend’s new roommate is down on his luck, her caring nature makes her want to reach out to him and offer what help she can. But the more time they spend together, the more complicated things get, especially when the seniors of Silver Linings decide to play matchmaker.

Righting a Wrong by Rachael Anderson

Seven years ago, Cambri Blaine fled her small hometown of Bridger, Colorado after her senior year ended in a fiasco. Only Jace Sutton knew the real reason why—that she was a spineless coward. Now, seven years later, her father’s been in an accident and needs help, and Cambr has no choice but to return home. So with trepidation, she takes a leave of absence from the landscape architecture firm where she works and boards a plane, hoping against hope that Jace is no longer around and that the past can stay where it belongs—in the past.

If only life worked that way.

Jace never expected to see Cambri again. After she’d led him on, bruised his heart, and left town without a backward glance, he was forced to pick up the pieces and try not to hate her for it. Eventually, he put it behind him and moved on, creating a life for himself in his beloved hometown. But now that Cambri is back and looking more beautiful and sophisticated than ever, some of those old feelings resurface, and Jake instinctively knows, for the sake of his heart, that he needs to avoid her at all costs.

If only it were that easy.

Lost and Found by Karey White

Lydia was supposed to have an adventurous and exciting summer. Instead she’s done nothing more than read and eat takeout. Now it’s time to go home, and what does she have to show for it? A big fat nothing. Unless, of course, her trip to the airport somehow turns into something more than just a flight home.

Blake feels like he’s been sent on a wild goose chase. While work is piling up back in Denver, he’s on the other side of the country, hunting for some mysterious box that his grandfather left him. Well, no more. Nothing inside that box could possibly be more important than the opportunity to make it as the youngest partner at his firm. So he’s going home, and that’s that. But that’s before he discovers his flight has been cancelled.

When these two strangers meet at the airport, they make a split-second decision to search for the box together. Maybe with both of them on the hunt, Lydia can have her adventure and Blake can find the box. And maybe, if they’re lucky, they’ll even find some romance.

Second Chances 101 by Donna K. Weaver

Thirty seven year old Francie Davis, a recent widow and empty nester, gets to attend college at last. For Professor Alex Diederik, life is going downhill fast. Not only is his bitter ex-wife trying to poison their only daughter against him, but now his one place of solace—his work environment—is being complicated by his attractive new administrative assistant. She drives home his feelings of failure as a husband and father, and Alex wonders if hiring her was the right thing to do.

Francie will have to put aside her hurt and insecurities or risk her dreams, while Alex must look outside himself if he’s to mend the breach with his daughter. And, perhaps, find someone who can help heal his pain.

Summer Fitzgerald is a person of interest in the robbery and murder of her former boss. With no resources she is forced to take a job as a nanny. To her surprise the job consists of watching four, almost full grown, cowboys and helping their handsome, older brother Holden O’Leary.

Veterinarian Holden O’Leary moves his family to a Montana ranch for a fresh start. His time is soon consumed rescuing neglected horses and he needs help with his bothers. Despite wishing otherwise, he soon finds that Summer holds his heart.

Will scandals and old secrets keep them from trusting each other or will Summer finally get her desire?

Warning: This title is intended for readers over the age of 18 as it contains adult sexual situations and/or adult language, and may be considered offensive to some readers.

Holden opened his big strong arms to her and she gladly stepped into the comfort he offered. It had been so long since anyone had believed her. He did believe her, didn’t he? The need to know outweighed the comfort of his arms. Pulling back, she saw worry and compassion in his dark eyes.

“You believe me?” Someone had told her once not to ask questions you don’t want the answer to. Her body suddenly chilled and her chin wobbled.

“Of course I believe you. You are a victim, Summer, and I don’t understand how everyone knew all the details. There are privacy laws now.”

“Not if your name is Beverly. I think the sheriff has a thing for her. She is always bringing him cakes and pies.”

A smile crossed Holden’s face and he chuckled. “I know it’s not funny but I can’t imagine those two together. The thought gives me nightmares.” He pulled her back into his arms and cradled her head against his chest with his palm. He kissed the top of her head.

Summer gazed up at him. His eyes glittered in the moonlight. The desire she saw was unmistakable. Yearning surged through her. The beating of her heart grew faster as his head inch down until his delectable lips were against hers. She reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck as he pulled her flush against him. The kiss grew bolder and she opened for him. His kiss was powerful and she felt weak in the knees.

Suddenly, Holden stepped back and the words unfair and wow came to mind.

“The door just slammed. One of my brothers is around.”

She nodded and smiled at Holden’s shortness of breath. She seemed to have the same effect on him.

Paranormal is, without a doubt, my favorite genre. Vampires, witches, werewolves, ghosts, so on and so forth have always been a source of fascination for me. So it came as no surprise that when I began to write my very first novel, it turned out to be classified as a paranormal romance.
I didn’t make the conscious decision to actually venture into this genre, but once the idea crossed my mind I just couldn’t stop myself from fully exploring this field. It is easy to say I pictured the endless possibilities and opted for reconnoitering them to my fullest capacity. Feeling the need to allow my imagination to expand and run amuck is very important to me and writing paranormal books allows for me to do this.
The five main reasons as to why I enjoy writing paranormal are as follow:

  • 1) There are hardly any boundaries to consider.
It definitely helps when I don’t have to limit what I write so much. I can take one idea and run wild with it. Mold it as much as possible to fit the society my characters live in.
    2) I can set my own rules.
It’s not necessary to do things according to either history or as said by other authors. Not that there’s anything wrong with what has been written before, but I do enjoy refreshing and shaking things up a bit.
    3) The characters can be mildly dysfunctional.
I love a great romance as much as the next gal, but I’m not one to believe the hero can’t bring some form of emotional baggage along with him. He doesn’t have to be picture perfect or even completely sane for that matter.
The heroine doesn’t have to be the damsel in distress most of the time or be completely boy crazy. Her role can vary from the outcast, to the uninterested single mother looking to improve the lives of those she loves, to the workaholic too consumed by her everyday life to worry about other matters. Adding a paranormal element to these factors only makes the story much more interesting.
    4) Cliché’s don’t have to be a bad thing.
I’m not a big fan of cliché’s per se, but I can sure make the most of them. If I can write about a forbidden love, which is considered one of the biggest cliché’s out there, and make it unique, why not?
    5) I love paranormal creatures.
Need I say more? I’ve always been captivated by all things that go bump in the night. Ever since I was old enough to actually know what a vampire was I was hooked. Now that I get to write about them my interest has only increased.

Alison here – Thanks so much Kristy for sharing! I’m a big fan of YA paranormal romances, so I can’t wait to read this! The excerpt left me reeling for more!!

Minutes later we arrived, and just in time for our eight a.m. classes. Claire, Tracy, and I dispersed to our respective classrooms upon entering the building, agreeing to meet later on for lunch.

Usually, I’d sit in one of the chairs at the first row of tables, since I barely made it in time for class; but today the only available seats were at the back—where no one likes to sit because it’s too far away from the writing board. No one paid attention to me as I scooted by to the back of the classroom and grabbed one of the empty seats at the last row of tables. The seat to the left of me was empty and everyone else had chosen their seats, so I was a little relieved that I wouldn’t be sharing the table with anyone. I wasn’t in the mood for small talk, so sitting alone came as a bonus.

When a few moments had gone by and no one else showed up, the teacher began his lecture for the day. With book, notebook, and pen in hand, I began to take notes of what the teacher was either saying or writing on the board, when the door opened and someone stepped inside. I was too busy going over what I wrote so I didn’t bother to look up to see who’d entered the classroom. I automatically assumed it was probably a student running late. However, the sound of loud gasps rushing through the otherwise silent room caused me to look up to see what the commotion was all about.

That was the first time I saw him. My gaze automatically drifted toward the silver-colored orbs he had for eyes. Never in my life had I seen eyes like those. It wasn’t just the color of them that was strange and incredibly alluring but the way he looked around the room also, as if searching for prey. Where that thought came from I had no idea, but I did agree that the description match him to a T.

The instructor spoke softly to him, but the boy only nodded several times, not even bothering to look at him. I thought that rude until I noticed he was too busy looking at…me.

My cheeks started to burn as he kept staring at me with those dangerously sensual eyes. No one had ever observed me that way before and it made me slightly uneasy. His quiet stare made me feel hot and uncomfortable all at once. After a silent staring contest, I turned my eyes away from him and decided to stare at the notes in front of me instead.

His eyes were intense, too much for me to handle without feeling as if I was going to be burned alive right on the spot. Good grief, no one ever had this mammoth effect on me before.

He was so different from the young men from around here. His demeanor held a hint of arrogance, boldness, and indifference unlike anything I’d perceived. Sure, some guys tended to act that way, but he took it up a notch. I took note of his dress code too: all-black casual wear—black hoodie, black shirt, black pants, black boots. Even his backpack was black. I could have easily accused him of being some kind of rock and roll groupie or maybe even a Goth-loving fan, but he didn’t appear to fit into either category.

However, the dark clothing only made his look more mysterious and it definitely brought out the color of his eyes even more. He was tall, too, very tall. If I had to guess what his height was, I would say six-foot-one or something close to that. His chestnut-colored hair was long, down to his shoulders, and he wore it lose. Something about him clearly screamed bad boy.

Book Trailer

These were not naked eyes, for the distance between these eyes and the beach bar at Cathy’s Fancy was too great for the naked eye to discern who was who. No, these eyes had planned meticulously. The eyes were glued to a pair of terribly expensive and unbelievably powerful Swarovski Optik binoculars. The balcony on which they now worked, taking in the scene before them, was the perfect place to see but not be seen. The powerful binoculars saw to that.

The distance, the palm trees, and the rays of the sun all helped. The position had been hand picked, after careful consideration. Every angle had been considered, and, one by one, they had all been discarded for one reason or another until this very spot, the perfect place to observe while not being observed, had been selected.

Yes, the eyes had seen it all. The eyes had seen precisely what they had hoped to see. They were like a master puppeteer. They planned, controlled, and observed, but from a safe distance. They did not miss a trick.

The eyes. The deadly eyes of St. Croix.

About the Author

I have resided in and have visited many places in the world, all of which have contributed in some way to my own published writing. I have literally traveled throughout the world, on numerous occasions. I have lived in Finland, Germany, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, on the island of St. Croix, where DEADLY EYES is set. I gained the wanderlust to see the world, to experience other cultures, at an early age, and this desire has never left me. If anything, it has only gained in intensity as I have aged. I try to travel internationally at least once a year. In the interim, I spend lots of time traveling around both my home state of California and other nearby states.

I spent my early years in the small town of Lone Pine, California, the home of almost every western movie, in addition to a wide variety of other genres, made in the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s. In fact, Hollywood still films parts of big-time movies there today. My dad, the town’s lifeguard at the time, personally knew John Wayne, Lloyd Bridges, and Lee Marvin, all of whom came to the town’s pool, the Memorial Plunge, at times to cool off after a hectic day of working in the sun. I was even an extra in a movie filmed there in 1957, MONOLITH MONSTERS, a B-cult favorite even today. I was ten years old at the time. Even though I resided in a small town hours from the big city, I was exposed to the excitement of action and heroes at a formative age, and, thus, my interest in writing novels of suspense such as DEADLY EYES was born.

As a recent retiree from a forty-year career as a professor of writing, I now live in Southern California wine country with my wife, Kitty, and our two other cats.
