Teaser Tuesday ~ The Bronze Horseman

teaser free-clip-art

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Today my teaser is from ~ The Bronze Horseman

The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights, all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur, or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler’s armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.

Yet there is light in the darkness. Tatiana meets Alexander, a brave young officer in the Red Army. Strong and self-confident, yet guarding a mysterious and troubled past, he is drawn to Tatiana—and she to him. Starvation, desperation, and fear soon grip their city during the terrible winter of the merciless German siege. Tatiana and Alexander’s impossible love threatens to tear the Metanova family apart and expose the dangerous secret Alexander so carefully protects—a secret as devastating as the war itself—as the lovers are swept up in the brutal tides that will change the world and their lives forever.

When Comrade Stalin signed the nonaggression pact with Hitler in 1939, Deda said that Stalin had gone to bed with the devil. And now the devil had betrayed Stalin. Why was that such a surprise? Why had we expected more from him? Had we expected the devil to behave honorably?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book! I highly recommend it to historical fiction fans!

Be sure to leave me a link to your TT in the comments!

Happy Reading,

Alison

  1. Wow! Great teaser! I love historical fiction and especially Russia in the early 20th century. Adding this to my ever-growing-longer TBR list! Thanks for stopping by my blog and sharing!

    • I have, too. This was the first book I recall reading from this time that was set in Russia. It’s great for the historical aspect alone, and then it has an intense love story woven in making for an amazing read!

    • Yes, there’s a romance woven in. I would even say that it’s such a great love story that romance fans that aren’t fans of historical fiction should read this. However, it’s really the minor story with the exception of one part, which I might guess took up about 10% of the story. It’s really a vivid picture of life in Russia. You’ll see everything from what communism looked like for them, aggressions with Finland, and the starving out of Leningrad.
