Title: The Risk
Series: Briar U Book 2
Author: Elle Kennedy
Release Date: Feb 18, 2019
Blurb: A sexy standalone novel from New York Times and international bestselling author Elle Kennedy.
Everyone says I’m a bad girl. They’re only partly right—I don’t let fear rule me, and I certainly don’t care what people think. But I draw the line at sleeping with the enemy. As the daughter of Briar’s head hockey coach, I’d be vilified if I hooked up with a player from a rival team.
And that’s who Jake Connelly is. Harvard’s star forward is arrogant, annoying, and too attractive for his own good. But fate is cruel—I require his help to secure a much-coveted internship, and the sexy jerk isn’t making it easy for me.
I need Connelly to be my fake boyfriend.
For every fake date…he wants a real one.
Which means this bad girl is in big trouble. Nothing good can come from sneaking around with Jake Connelly. My father would kill me, my friends will revolt, and my post-college career is on the line. But while it’s getting harder and harder to resist Jake’s oozing sex appeal and cocky grin, I refuse to fall for him.
That’s the one risk I’m not willing to take.
My 4.5 Star Review
First and foremost ~ Elle Kennedy can do hot college hockey players like NO OTHER!! You can expect lots of laughs with this one. And I stress a LOT!! I laughed my way through most of this book. There was a nice bit of tension in the climax, though. There were several NO WAYS! I was caught by surprise a few times, and I LOVED that!
Brenna was a unique character for me. There was very little I could relate to with her, but I still found her to be a breath of fresh air. She is bad a**!!!
Jake Connelly is just yummy! A hot sexy hockey god! He’s serious about his hockey, and he hasn’t let anything come in the way of that. But, he just wasn’t ready for Brenna. His character surprised me. He was so incredibly sweet, and it was really unexpected but totally believable!
This book also had a touch of the taboo. Brenna’s dad is Briar’s coach, and Jake is captain of their rival team. Not to mention Brenna’s dad’s own personal rival with Jake’s coach that goes way back. That brought a whole separate element of tension.
I also love that Elle is great at developing strong, unique minor characters. I got the biggest kick out of one very quirky girl with her heart set on one of Briar’s players!
I cannot wait for the next Briar U book!!!
