The Girl He Used To Know ~ Release Day Review

Title: The Girl He Used To Know
Author: Tracey Garvis Graves
Release Date: Apr 2, 2019
Blurb: New York Times bestselling author of On the Island, Tracey Garvis Graves, presents the compelling, hopelessly romantic novel of unconditional love.

Annika (rhymes with Monica) Rose is an English major at the University of Illinois. Anxious in social situations where she finds most people’s behavior confusing, she’d rather be surrounded by the order and discipline of books or the quiet solitude of playing chess.

Jonathan Hoffman joined the chess club and lost his first game—and his heart—to the shy and awkward, yet brilliant and beautiful Annika. He admires her ability to be true to herself, quirks and all, and accepts the challenges involved in pursuing a relationship with her. Jonathan and Annika bring out the best in each other, finding the confidence and courage within themselves to plan a future together. What follows is a tumultuous yet tender love affair that withstands everything except the unforeseen tragedy that forces them apart, shattering their connection and leaving them to navigate their lives alone.

Now, a decade later, fate reunites Annika and Jonathan in Chicago. She’s living the life she wanted as a librarian. He’s a Wall Street whiz, recovering from a divorce and seeking a fresh start. The attraction and strong feelings they once shared are instantly rekindled, but until they confront the fears and anxieties that drove them apart, their second chance will end before it truly begins.

*****My 5 Star Review*****

There have been a couple months that have passed since I’ve read this book. I took some notes while I read it so that I wouldn’t forget what I wanted to say when I made this post. But, I don’t need to go back to look at them. Why? Because this is one of the most unique stories that I have ever read, and I seriously doubt it will ever leave me. I read close to 200 books a year, which equates to a good number of books that I read in just one month. I often times find that I can’t remember much about the story I read just 2 books ago. Let alone details like the characters’ names. But, as I started to write this, I find that I could practically recite this book to you scene by scene. I didn’t even need to look up the characters’ names, and I am horrible at remembering names!

I can remember all the struggles and feelings that Annika dealt with. Every excruciating and wonderful moment of it. I can remember every sweet, sweet second of Jonathan’s patience, gentleness, and understanding. How could I forget because he literally brought tears to my eyes, and I have NEVER had tears in my eyes over the sweetness of a character before! And all of this beautifulness led up to one mega heart-stopping climax!

As much as I would love to gush on and on about this book, I won’t, because I don’t want to dare take away from your experience should you choose to pick this book up. And I HIGHLY recommend you pick this book up! I absolutely LOVED every awkward and quirky moment of it!! This isn’t by any means your average second chance romance – it’s sooooo much more!!!
