Title: The King
Series: Black Dagger Brotherhood #12
Author: J.R. Ward
Release Date: April 1, 2014
Genres: Paranormal Romance
Blurb:Long live the King…

After turning his back on the throne for centuries, Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumed his father’s mantle—with the help of his beloved mate. But the crown sets heavily on his head. As the war with the Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits home, he is forced to make choices that put everything—and everyone—at risk.

Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into when she mated the last pure blooded vampire on the planet: An easy ride was not it. But when she decides she wants a child, she’s unprepared for Wrath’s response—or the distance it creates between them.

The question is, will true love win out… or tortured legacy take over?

*****What I Loved About This Book*****

  • The storyline of Sola & Assail! The storyline of Layla & Xcor! I love the anti-hero stuff!
  • The new drama with the s’Hisbe and Trez, and his relationship with Selena!
  • The fact that there are multiple plot lines and multiple characters, and yet they are so well developed and easy to keep separated in my mind. And I like how they all connect to make the bigger picture!
  • The way these books beat down prejudices!
  • Sola’s grandmother! She’s so awesome!!
  • It’s unpredictable. I’m constantly guessing what’s going to come next and most often I’m wrong!
  • Lassiter! He is always the funniest!!
  • iAm! I love his moments with Beth and getting to know his sweetness!
  • When Xcor is clothes shopping!! So funny!
  • How Wrath steps up!!!
  • The way Beth and Wrath’s story closes up!!!

***What I Didn’t Like***

  • Assail’s drug addiction and refusal to put Sola first. It’s great writing. It just made me mad!
  • I don’t get how the whole issue with Wrath and Beth wasn’t already addressed when Saxton went over the old laws.
  • I didn’t get why Wrath said he felt trapped by Beth. It didn’t fit his character and relationship with her.
  • Wrath gives in when he shouldn’t have!

Have you read The King or any other BDB books? What did you think? Have a recommendation for me?

Happy Reading,

Ali
