Ok, confession time. I started The Fallen: Genesis by Tillie Cole. And close to 50% in I had to quit. I was reading it for a dark prompt on one of my challenges. And let me tell y’all it fit the bill. It just fit it toooooooo well for me!!! If you enjoy dark, run and pick that bad boy up! Tillie pulled it off well. I’m afraid I’ll have nightmares for years over what I managed to get through. I had to start reading Fluffy (even with it being way past my bedtime) just so I could go to sleep. Warning, though, if you have triggers. Do NOT!!!!! pick it up.
That being said. I still need to read a dark book before the end of the year. Does Twilight count? LOL! Seriously, I need something that can be considered dark but isn’t toooooo dark. Any recommendations?
What are your WWWs today???
Laters,
Ali
Red Winter has such a gorgeous cover! Dark but not too dark is hard, because I have so many good recommendations for dark, but … I think they probably all cross that line. xD Oh! Have you read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness? That was dark, but more emotionally than anything else. :3

I actually picked The Fallen back up and finished it. It just wouldn’t let me go. Thank goodness I had gotten through most of the really rough stuff already. The next time I have to read something dark I’ll try to keep A Monster Calls in mind. Thanks!!

That Red Winter cover is so pretty. I’m really curious about Maus and might check it out sometime in the future.

I think it’s a beautiful cover, too! My son had me really curious about Maus, and I already own it. Plus it’ll fulfill a prompt I need to complete for a challenge. Bonus!

Fluffy is on my TBR! How are you finding it so far? I guess it’s a pretty big and positive change to what you were reading previously (just read the synopsis for the fallen on Goodreads and wow… that’s already super intense, can’t imagine what the book itself would be like)! 🙈

It’s hilarious! It’s not a book that I’d recommend for depth or the great romance, but it’s definitely one to save for a day that you could use a good laugh!

Haha, awww! I would be the same Ali – I can’t handle books or films which are too dark! I’m not sure if Twilight counts as dark… it is supernatural 😉 Whatever you end up reading I hope you enjoy it. Maybe you could read something Gothic like Frankenstein, as they tend to be creepy and atmospheric but not too dark or scary?!

That’s a great suggestion! Unfortunately I just read it last year and don’t think I’m up for it again so soon. Same for Dracula. Hmm, but that’s leading me to thinking of some other possibilities! Thanks!!

I’m sorry the book you previously picked up was a bit too much for you. Hopefully your next reads will suit you better!

Coraline by Neil Gaiman might fit the bill as far as “dark but not too dark” goes. I hope that’s helpful, I can’t immediately think of another book. Happy reading!

That’s a good suggestion! Plus, Neil Gaiman is one of those authors I’ve been wanting to read but haven’t yet. Thanks!!

I would totally count Twilight as dark. I have heard that Cole book is SUPER DARK. I don’t mind dark here and there, but I haven’t picked that one up because of what I heard. Sorry about the nightmares. She does have a good series (minus the first book) about college football.

Ha! Yes, if you count Twilight as dark, steer clear of this book!!! I read A Thousand Boy Kisses & A Wish For Us and loved both of them. I just need to stay away from her dark stuff because she writes it too well for me! LOL!

It is a beautiful cover! I hadn’t heard a whole lot about it before I started it, but I’ve seen more and more people talking about it just over the last week. It’s really good!

Fluffy looks cute and fun. And the Twilight series was what got me reading YA!

Fluffy is soooo funny! And yay for Twilight! It’s actually the book that opened me up to reading classics, so it holds a special place in my heart. Did you get your WordPress issues figured out??
