Genres: NA Contemporary Romance/ College

She’s addicted to sex. He’s addicted to booze…the only way out is rock bottom.
No one would suspect shy Lily Calloway’s biggest secret. While everyone is dancing at college bars, Lily stays in the bathroom. To get laid. Her compulsion leads her to one-night stands, steamy hookups and events she shamefully regrets. The only person who knows her secret happens to have one of his own.
Loren Hale’s best friend is his bottle of bourbon. Lily comes at a close second. For three years, they’ve pretended to be in a real relationship, hiding their addictions from their families. They’ve mastered the art of concealing flasks and random guys that filter in and out of their apartment.
But as they sink beneath the weight of their addictions, they cling harder to their destructive relationship and wonder if a life together, for real, is better than a lie. Strangers and family begin to infiltrate their guarded lives, and with new challenges, they realize they may not just be addicted to alcohol and sex.
Their real vice may be each other.
*****My Review*****
This is a book where I have to say that I’m thankful for CAWPILE. It was a hard book for me to get through since both of the main characters are struggling with different addicitons. I didn’t care for either of them at the start since I was only getting the dark side of their lives, but I did grow to truly care about the characters as the story progressed.
I think Krista & Becca did a great job of showing the highs and lows of addiction and the inner turmoil that one goes through. It was really hard to read for me having a couple people very close to me struggle with addictions. But, it was well done. I really enjoyed that the final outcome in this book was realistic. It wasn’t all butterflies and rainbows. It was raw and real but hopeful.
It also has interesting side characters, family drama, and plot twists. The addictions aren’t the only thing driving this couple’s story. Reading about the sex addiction was interesting, though, since I’ve never read a book where a character struggled with that particular addiction. And I found the fake relationship aspect interesting.
Anywho, if I was rating this purely on enjoyment as I used to, I’d give this a solid 4 stars, but using CAWPILE and paying attention to all the different elements, I have to give it 5. And I must say that I’m looking forward to the next book. Fingers crossed that all that hope is built on instead of coming crashing down…

Never heard of this book before but my curiosity has been piqued! Sounds like it’d be a ‘darker romance’ with the addictions though. Will have to check it out! Great review 🙂

I read this almost 3 years ago now. I had to go back and read my review of it to refresh my memory. I ended up giving it a 3 star rating because it frustrated me so much. You can read my review of it for my full thoughts if you’re interested. I’ll leave the link below.

This is a series that gets better and better with each book. After reading all of them, these people felt like my friends. I hope that becomes the same for you. I think you will end up appreciating how Lo and Lily handle their addictions in the future.

I’m so glad you liked this one, Alison! I’m trying to restrain myself from full-on gushing, but the book/series is so, so special to me. Almost every book in the series is a five star read for me (and I give out five stars super sparingly – they’re like unicorns LOL). I was so sucked into Lily and Lo’s story and my heart broke for how much they struggled. I thought Krista and Becca did an incredible job at showing the power of their addictions and the lack of control they felt.
