What He Doesn’t Know ~ Review

Alison here ~

Title: What He Doesn’t Know
Series: What He Doesn’t Know #1/Best Kept Secrets Book 1
Author: Kandi Steiner
Release Date: Mar 15, 2018
Genres: Contemporary Romance
Blurb: On the northeast side of town, there is a house.

The house was once magical, filled with love and joy and plans for the future.

Inside its walls are many things that belong to me — my books, the china from my mother on my wedding day, the beautiful cage once home to two birds, now empty, just like me.

And a man.

A man who also belongs to me.

A man I no longer wish to keep.

A man who, no doubt, has not slept, though the sun is rising. Because the house where he waits is where I laid my head to rest every night for eight years. Until last night.

No one who knows me would believe Charlie Pierce, the quiet, bookish girl who never made waves is pulling out of the driveway of a man who isn’t her husband.

But they don’t know me at all.

I don’t even know me.

Not anymore.

They say there are two sides to every story, and I suppose in most cases, that’s true. But the one I live inside of? It has three.

On the northeast side of town, there is a house.

But there is no longer a home.

I’m so glad I finally got a Steiner book under my belt! But I almost didn’t….If you’re a regular here, then you probably already know how I feel about cheating in my books. It’s usually a no no for me, but I have had the rare exception, like Letters to Molly, where it made sense in the story and things are resolved in a beautiful way. While this book is only the first half of the story, I am currently feeling pretty confident that I’ll be just as pleased with this couple’s resolution. Which couple am I referring to, though? That’s part of the intrigue in this story. You aren’t sure for a chunk of the book what all the pieces to the story are or who you think Charlie should really be with. I had a pretty clear view of what I wanted to happen in the beginning, but the Steiner had me questioning things a few times. Ultimately, though, I was so pleased with where the story headed. And boy was there a plot twist at the end! I’m definitely looking forward to the next book and more Kandi Steiner in my life. P.S. If you’re not into triangles, you’ll probably want to steer clear of this one.

Have you read What He Doesn’t Know or any of Kandi Steiner’s other books? If not, are you going to? I love when an author can take a subject or set of circumstances that I usually dislike and still have me enjoy a book. Do you have any books where that has happened for you? Have a recommendation for me?

Happy Reading,

Alison

  3. Haha yep, going to stay well away from this one! I just can’t take the angst in love triangles… But glad to hear that you ended up enjoying it 🙂 Always lovely to be surprised by a book you didn’t think would be your jam!

  5. I knew I saw this book somewhere else (and it was also a hit for that reader – Tanya). I have a few of Steiner’s books. I should get on that. I can tell I would have to be in the mood for this one, though. I am sensing a lot of drama.

  6. Yay! So glad you enjoyed it, Alison! I was so sure of where the story was going – and what I wanted to happen – and Steiner really turned all of that around. I appreciated how there weren’t obvious bad guys. That would have been too easy. Instead it was real and messy and people were getting hurt no matter what. Can’t wait to see what you think of the second book. 🙂
