Alison here ~
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organise yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment and er… add to your groaning TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at The Book Date. Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels or anything in those genres – join them.
Happy Monday! Or at least I hope you’re having a good Monday – all things considered. Today I’m actually going to have my youngest two do a little school work. While homeschooling is normal for us, the stuff going on around us isn’t. So, we’ve been doing lots of reading, but other than that, we’ve been taking it easy. And we’re still going to be taking it easy. But I at least want my high schooler working on math and chemistry. I’ve mentioned this before, but I don’t remember if it was on here or just to some of the people that have been asking for help and guidance: don’t stress the schooling right now. If your child has mandatory online work that has to be done, then that’s one thing. But, if they don’t then just find some fun things for them to do that are also educational – things as simple as playing a game of Monopoly. I promise that it won’t hurt them in the long run. Anytime that things became stressful in our lives we always went lax with the schooling and focused on family and fun. Result: my oldest is a straight A college student now. Very little learning will take place if you’re stressed and they’re stressed.

Happy Reading,

I agree with taking it easy. My son’s school is sending work online but it won’t be graded so I’m just having him do a little each day, with most of my focus on his core subjects like Algebra and Science. I hope you and your family have a great week and continue to stay safe.

Ha! Yes, I’ve just had my high school child focusing on his Algebra II and chemistry. We did have a great week all things considered. We’re enjoying all the family time! Hope you and yours have a great and safe week, too!!

I like the idea of taking it easy. Everything is so stressful right now!

Yes! So, I’m doing my best to focus on the positives of family and fun. We’re doing a little school, but now much.

We’re doing more than we were last week, but that’s because online schooling has ramped up in our district. Which is weird because next week is spring break.

Hmm, that is weird. I hope they aren’t putting too much on the kids. I know that just adds to the stress levels.

No, not enough in my opinion.

Kudos for taking it easy. There’s enough going on right now without the stress of schoolwork. Sure, stability and routine is important but so is fun and play and downtime.

Yes! So agree. It definitely helps them focus more on their schoolwork after they’ve had some time to just have some fun and unwind. I know all the kids out there have to be stressed just like their parents are – maybe over different things – but it’s still stress.
