Title: Serpent & Dove
Series: Serpent & Dove #1
Author: Shelby Mahurin
Release Date: Sept 3, 2019
Genres: YA Fantasy/Romance
Blurb: Bound as one to love, honor, or burn.
Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.
Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou’s, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.
The war between witches and Church is an ancient one, and Lou’s most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made.
And love makes fools of us all.
*****My Review*****
I went into this story blind other than knowing that it was a fantasy with a romance and a lot of people enjoyed it. That was enough to get me to pick it up. But, I have to also acknowledge that I was very apprehensive about picking it up right now since I’ve been in such a picky mood with everything going on and fantasies haven’t all been easy to get into. I had nothing to worry about with this one, though. While it didn’t suck me in completely in the first chapter, I was sold by the second one.
The story line didn’t feel completely unique, but it was still presented in a way that I couldn’t turn away and I was completely invested in what was taking place. I really enjoyed watching the relationship between Lou and Reid bloom and grow. Also, knowing if Reid discovered that Lou was a witch would really mix things up added another element.
And there were little mysteries along the way and unexpected twists that added an extra element to the story. And, the fact that Lou was being hunted by more than just the Chasseurs… I’ll definitely be looking forward to the next book! 4 Stars!
Happy Reading,
Alison

Great review! I’m looking forward to re-reading this one before the second book comes out. I still haven’t written my review for this one either 😂 I loved Reid and Lou! They were such an odd couple but they really worked. Curious to see what happens next.

I’m hoping I can hang onto the details by the time the second comes out, but September is a long time away in terms of how many books I’ll have read by then…
