Title: The Loneliest Girl in the Universe
Author: Lauren James
Release Date: July 3, 2018
Genres: YA Sci/Fi
Blurb: Can you fall in love with someone you’ve never met, never even spoken to – someone who is light years away?
Romy Silvers is the only surviving crew-member of a spaceship travelling to a new planet, on a mission to establish a second home for humanity amongst the stars. Alone in space, she is the loneliest girl in the universe until she hears about a new ship which has launched from Earth – with a single passenger on board. A boy called J.
Their only communication with each other is via email – and due to the distance between them, their messages take months to transmit across space. And yet Romy finds herself falling in love.
But what does Romy really know about J? And what do the mysterious messages which have started arriving from Earth really mean?
Sometimes, there’s something worse than being alone . . .
I didn’t read a whole lot of the blurb for this one, and I’m so glad because this is one of those times that going in fairly blind soooo paid off! I didn’t know what to expect and I was just constantly on the edge of my seat.
I listened to the audiobook and it is definitely a book that I’d recommend experiencing via this format! I was sucked into the story right from the start. I felt every single thing that Romy felt from beginning to end. This book will take you through the FEELS!! ALL OF THEM!! I felt terror, giddiness, love, horror, scared, heartbreak, and hope. This book is one heck of a ride and you’ll feel like you’ve experienced every genre there is before the story is over, and yet it all flows seamlessly into one incredible tale!
You can expect some high angst, though it’s not throughout the whole book, so it doesn’t feel too overwhelming until you’re in the midst of a couple scenes (It was everything I could do to keep from fastforwarding to listen to the end real quick). There are unexpected twists and turns, and I just couldn’t listen to this book fast enough!
4.5 Strong Stars! The ONLY reason I didn’t give this book 5 stars was because I wanted just a little bit more for Romy in the end….well, frankly, I want a sequel!! Either way, I highly recommend this one, and for sure recommend the audiobook. I think the narration just added to the awesomeness!
On an entirely different note, I just got my hands on RAGE AND RUIN!!!! I can’t wait to dig in tonight!!!
