Personal Highlights:
This was a pleasant week for our family. My oldest wrapped up the last of his summer semester maintaining his 4.0 GPA. Super proud of him! He’ll have almost a month off and then he’ll start his fall semester. All of his classes have been moved online with the exception of a lab, and less than 40% of it will be done in the classroom. This will be his final semester here at the local community college before he transfers to a university.
I had this beauty pop up this week. I love seeing this come back each year because it was supposed to be an annual.
We celebrated my middle child’s sweet 16 this week. And I had a little visitor while sitting out on my porch…
This is a great horned owl, for any that are interested. It’s one of 4 types of owls we get here in northwest Louisiana.

What a great week you had! We can hear an owl at night but we never see him during the day. I think I might pass out if one surprised me like that. 😍

I did have a great week! And the owl definitely took me by surprise! I jumped up and yelled. LOL! I can’t believe I didn’t scare it off. And my dog was on the porch with me and barking up a storm. It just sat there looking back and forth between me and my dog. It was so bizarre!

Well done to your son! That’s quite an accomplishment. And a belated happy birthday to your other son. That owl looks huge! I think I would have backed away. LOL

Thanks!! It was a pretty decent size. I was honestly stunned for a moment. I couldn’t believe it came and landed so close to me!

The flower is gorgeous and what an awesome owl. We have one living in the woods across from me and I usually see it just before dark.

Thanks!! This one has been making an appearance in the morning. I couldn’t believe it came all the way to my porch while I was sitting about 10 feet away and my dog was barking at it like crazy!

That is a big owl! I’ve never seen one up close.

It was a descent sized owl. We have screech owls here and they are little bitty and just the cutest. I’ve gotten to hold them at our nature park nearby where I’ve volunteered with my son, but I haven’t seen any outside of that, though.

Congrats to your son. A 4.0 is a huge accomplishment!
I just finished Six of Crows and absolutely loved it!! Now I’m moving on to Crooked Kingdom. I’m also halfway through House of Earth and Blood – another really good one. 🙂

I don’t think I have ever seen an owl that up close (except for when I did a GS thing at the Philly zoo). Very cool.

My son and I have both been trained to work with owls as volunteer naturalists, so we’ve both handled owls up close and personal. However, that was the closest I’ve ever been to one out in nature for sure. Very cool indeed!

What a cool visitor! We have had a bunch of bunnies and hummingbirds, but that’s about it. Nothing as big as an owl!

Yes it is! Funny enough I was watching the hummingbirds when it showed up. My mom said she saw it again this morning hanging out under one of our bird feeders. We think it’s after the squirrels.
