Miss Katherine Danvers is a desperate wallflower. Her family is on the brink of financial ruin, and it is up her to save her mother and sisters from a life of indignities. So she transforms herself into the incomparable Kitty Danvers, the fiancée of the enigmatic and reclusive Alexander Masters, Duke of Thornton—once dubbed the mad, bad, and dangerous catch of the Season.
Ten years ago, society and the woman Alexander Masters loved called him a monster, after a tragic accident left him scarred and confined to a wheelchair. His heart exists in cold, lonely exile, until he learns he has a fiancée—a deceptive, clever, and utterly intriguing woman he’s never met. Miss Danvers will now learn the consequences of engaging herself to the beast, for Alexander is determined to make her his. Soon, they are involved in a chase, a clash of wills, and though he once vowed to never love again, he burns for the enchanting Miss Danvers. And denying his heart may cost him an exquisite love that happens only once in a lifetime.
*****My Review*****
I usually tend to prefer romances where the man is the one pursuing the woman. This book was a reversal of that, but I found myself not having one problem with that!
Katherine “Kitty” is involved with a group of wallflowers that are fed up just standing around watching life pass them by. They are ready to be “sinful” to reach their goals, and Kitty decides to do this by declaring herself betrothed to a duke. She doesn’t expect this reclusive duke to leave his hermit ways behind and hunt her down. She was only hoping the connection would be just the thing to see her sisters married and taken care of.
Alexander can’t help but be intrigued by the woman declaring herself to be his betrothed, and it’s the first thing that’s intrigued him in quite a while. Alexander has been suffering in his castle for quite a long time after being disabled in a fire that cost his parents’ lives. He’s relearned to walk although the doctors had said he wouldn’t, but he still has to spend a good deal of time in a wheelchair. And he doesn’t believe himself capable of any bedroom “fun.”
To put it simply, Alexander is enthralled with Kitty from the start. His interest in her is so exciting to read. And of course, he pulls on your heartstrings with his suffering. Watching Kitty draw him back to life is such a joy! And I LOVED how Alexander’s servants even jumped on board with wanting to see Alexander happy.
Ultimately, Kitty was often the one pushing things along, but it was constantly clear how much Alexander truly desired her in his life. It was so completely heartwarming! 4.5 Stars! I’m definitely interested in reading about the other wallflowers now.

Okay, a heroine brazenly declaring her betrothal to a total stranger and household staff mustering to promote their employer’s happiness are two of my favorite tropes, so I think I NEED to read this.
