Honest Illusions & Kingdom of the Cursed

Happy Saturday! I hope you’re all enjoying a nice weekend! It’s been a crazy week, so I haven’t posted a lot. But, I wanted to share my thoughts on the last couple of books that I did finish because I loved them!

Honest Illusions  The daughter of a world-renowned magician, Roxy Nouvelle has inherited her father’s talents—and his penchant for jewel thievery. Into this colorful world comes Luke Callahan, an escape artist who captures her heart—and keeps secrets that could shatter all her illusions…

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve read this book, but I still absolutely love it! I find it just as gripping each time I pick it up. There are just so many things I love about it.

First – New Orleans. Nora gets it so right. Being a Louisianian, I loved how the sights, sounds, smells, religious notes, and most especially LeClerc’s food all fully shared the heart of our state.

Second – Everything about them being magicians. I love how so much of the practice and illusions was shared, and yet enough was held back to keep you wondering how things were done. The stunts were thrilling and breathtaking.

Third – The jewel heists! Talk about thrilling and breathtaking. I was on pins and needles. I love how they were doing something wrong and Nora still had me pulling for them!

Fourth – Luke and Roxanne’s relationship. I loved absolutely everything about it. Watching it bloom from angry childhood to true respect, to love, and to lust, and then to romantic love. While Luke wasn’t legally her stepbrother, he was raised as such for so long and struggled hard with his feelings. I loved watching Roxanne mow down that wall!

Fifth – Max. His love for Lily. His love for Luke and Rox. His free lessons and the found family he provided for so many.

Sixth – The wild ride that the plot took us on with Sam Wyatt, and all the twists and turns that turned this into a second chance romance.

So many times with books I love, I want a sequel. With this book, it feels like you’re getting the full picture, and it just leaves me feeling so completely satisfied!
5 amazing stars!!

After selling her soul to become Queen of the Wicked, Emilia travels to the Seven Circles with the enigmatic Prince of Wrath, where she’s introduced to a seductive world of vice.

She vows to do whatever it takes to avenge her beloved sister, Vittoria… even if that means accepting the hand of the Prince of Pride, the king of demons.

The first rule in the court of the Wicked? Trust no one. With back-stabbing princes, luxurious palaces, mysterious party invitations, and conflicting clues about who really killed her twin, Emilia finds herself more alone than ever before. Can she even trust Wrath, her one-time ally in the mortal world… or is he keeping dangerous secrets about his true nature?

Emilia will be tested in every way as she seeks a series of magical objects that will unlock the clues of her past and the answers she craves…

One sister.
Two sinful princes.
Infinite deception with a side of revenge… Welcome to Hell.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author of Stalking Jack the Ripper Kerri Maniscalco comes the sizzling, sweepingly romantic sequel to Kingdom of the Wicked!

So many times a second book in a series can just really let you down, but this book didn’t disappoint at all. I was sucked in immediately and the final pages just left me wanting more!!

Emilia enters hell with Wrath, preparing to marry Pride, the Devil himself, in order to discover what happened to her sister. She is fully determined to get revenge and return to her family. BUT, there are so many twists and turns. People aren’t who she thought. She’s not sure who plays which role, or even in some cases who’s dead or alive. There is so much mystery and intrigue, and it’s fun watching Emilia navigate tenuous relationships with some of the Sins.

AND, the temperature is seriously turned up between her and Wrath. Definitely expect this book to be a LOT hotter. I loved Wrath’s stoicism and his refusal to influence Emilia. He puts up so many walls while letting it show that he cares a lot.

This book will give you some answers – some you didn’t even know you were looking for. And, it’ll leave you with lots of questions. I can’t wait for the next book!!! 5 Stars!!!

Both of these were so good!! What’s your most recent five star read??

Happy Reading,

Alison

  1. Oof, your review makes me wanna pick up a Nora Roberts book right now! This one sounds so good so I’ll definitely be adding it to the never-ending TBR! I re-discovered a few of my Roberts books the other day when I was re-doing my shelves so I might just pick one of them up again! Great reviews, Ali 🙂
