The perfect neighborhood can be the perfect place to hide…

Who wouldn’t want to live in Brighton Hills? This exclusive community on the Oregon coast is the perfect mix of luxury and natural beauty. Stunning houses nestle beneath mighty Douglas firs, and lush backyards roll down to the lakefront. It’s the kind of place where neighbors look out for one another. Sometimes a little too closely…

Cora thinks her husband, Finn, is cheating—she just needs to catch him in the act. That’s where Paige comes in. Paige lost her son to a hit-and-run last year, and she’s drowning in the kind of grief that makes people do reckless things. Like spying on the locals, searching for proof that her son’s death was no accident. And agreeing to Cora’s plan to reveal what kind of man Finn really is. All the while, their reclusive new neighbor, Georgia, is acting more strangely every day. But what could such a lovely young mother possibly be hiding?

When you really start to look beyond the airy open floor plans and marble counters, Brighton Hills is filled with secrets. Some big, some little, some deadly. And one by one, they’re about to be revealed…

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

I’ve been on a mystery/thriller kick lately. I always enjoy reading them in the fall as I’ve gotten to where I enjoy seasonal reads more than I used to. I went into this one completely blind. I’ve seen it before, but I didn’t recall anything about the blurb or reviews. I figured I’d give it a try, and if I wasn’t enjoying it I could always put it down and start another one. That wasn’t at all necessary because I was sucked in quickly, and I never got bored.

The book starts out with death of someone in the gated community of Brighton Hills. You get snippets of what is actually happening, but you don’t know who’s guilty. The story follows three neighbors: Cora, Paige, and Georgia. Paige’s son is the one that died, and she’s suspicious of EVERYONE. Cora is Paige’s best friend, but she’s suffering with marriage troubles. She’s sure her husband is cheating, but if he is, he’s been doing some major gaslighting. And then there’s Georgia, who never leaves her home. He husband kindly tells everyone that she’s agoraphobic.

While the book starts out giving you the one murder (or accident) to solve, there are actually multiple dramas and mini mysteries, and thrilling moments. And all of the excitement builds up to some twists and a reveal that I didn’t see coming. And yet, it all added up and made sense.

It was a gripping and thrilling ride, and I’m so glad I gave this one a chance!

*I’m horrible about recognizing triggers, so always make sure to check them out if you have any.
