A warm and uplifting novel about an isolated witch whose opportunity to embrace a quirky new family–and a new love–changes the course of her life.

As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules…with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos pretending to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

But someone does. An unexpected message arrives, begging her to travel to the remote and mysterious Nowhere House to teach three young witches how to control their magic. It breaks all of the rules, but Mika goes anyway, and is immediately tangled up in the lives and secrets of not only her three charges, but also an absent archaeologist, a retired actor, two long-suffering caretakers, and…Jamie. The handsome and prickly librarian of Nowhere House would do anything to protect the children, and as far as he’s concerned, a stranger like Mika is a threat. An irritatingly appealing threat.

As Mika begins to find her place at Nowhere House, the thought of belonging somewhere begins to feel like a real possibility. But magic isn’t the only danger in the world, and when a threat comes knocking at their door, Mika will need to decide whether to risk everything to protect a found family she didn’t know she was looking for….

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

I picked up this book because it looked like a fun and light paranormal romance for the fall season, and it didn’t disappoint!

Mika Moon is a witch, and people don’t know about witches. So, Mika gets the bright idea to start her own video channel “playing” at being a witch. Her life changes, though, when someone recognizes that she really is a witch and sends her a letter inviting her to come to Nowhere House and tutor three small girls.

What she finds is three young girls: Rosetta, Terracotta, and Altamira. These girls are untrained witches in need of some guidance. They’re being raised by a misfit “family” of sorts. When witches are born, they are always soon orphaned. Rosetta and Altamira are quick to take to Mika, but Terracotta is a bit more stubborn. That may be because she’s taking her cues from Jamie, who is also not crazy about Mika’s attendance in their lives.

Jamie has had the biggest hand in raising the girls thus far, but Lucie, the housemaid, along with Ian the cook and his husband, Ken, the gardener, have all stepped up to help. The found family aspect of this bunch is super strong and supremely heartwarming. Their love, care, and protectiveness is precious, and watching them slowly bring Mika into the folds is beautiful.

It’s a leap of faith to love people and let yourself be loved.

Mika and Jamie have all the grump/sunshine vibes. Jamie suffered in his own family before Nowhere House. Now he has an internal struggle going over protecting his found family and not wanting Mika to continue feeling as if she doesn’t have a home or family herself. Theirs is a slow burn romance that melts your heart.

If I loved you less…I might be able to talk about it more.

I highly recommend this for those of you that like your spook on the heartwarming side. This one stole my heart!
