I first saw this challenge over at Dinipandareads and knew I wanted to do it. It combines two things I love (music and books), and I was already contemplating doing a regular post like this prior to seeing this challenge (with a differences). I had so much fun with this challenge that I think I’m going to follow through with my plan.

After seeing Dini’s post I saw that Deanna @ A Novel Glimpse also participated, and she found the original creator of the challenge, so I can give proper credit to Lace and Dagger Books.
Rules:
The challenge is simple β put your top songs playlist on shuffle and for the first five songs you get, I want you to list a book that you read this year that the song reminds you of. Pretty simple, right? If you really canβt think of anything then you can skip the song but the idea is to at least try to think of something.
I’ll note here that like Deanna, I usually listen to one huge playlist that has all the genres all meshed together. I grew up in a musical family (my parents had a band while I was growing up), and we listened to everything and that’s stuck with me. Because my hubs uses Spotify through my profile it has my top songs all jacked up. So, I’m just doing a random shuffle through my playlist.
Song 1 ~
Reminds me of ~
Camryn needs to get away, and she winds up on a Greyhound bus. On this road trip she winds up meeting the love of her life, and their story is beautiful. These lyrics in particular reminded me of a great scene.
I wanna sleep on the hard ground
In the comfort of your arms
Song 2 ~
Reminds me of ~
This song just screams Finlay’s crazy babysitter to me! This song was her motto for this book, and it’s so highly entertaining!
Song 3 ~
Reminds me of ~
Y’all this song just screams Bella without Edward. These lines fit Bella perfectly since she so desperately needed to hang on to the fact that he really existed somewhere out there ~
I’ve been told, I’ve been told to get you off my mind
But I hope I never lose the bruises that you left behind
Song 4 ~
Reminds me of ~
Whew. This song and this book. I really just have no words here to do it justice. If you know, you know. If you haven’t read it…WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR. Yes, it’ll break you, but it’ll also fill you with HOPE.
Song 5 ~
Reminds me of ~
This book and this song both have a strong theme of putting away hate, racism, and other discriminations. They’re both beautiful! If you don’t know the song or the book, then I recommend them both highly!
And now I’m wanting to do some rereads! LOL!
Happy Reading,
Alison

Woo, I loved reading your answers (and I also haven’t listened to some of these songs, like the Dixie Chicks, in SO long but I’m now adding them to my playlist cos I LOVE! π). Lewis Capaldi is also one of my faves and that song is so good. I’m going to save the Disturbed one for when I actually read Bright Side this yearβI’m a little nervous but also excited, ahah! Great post, Ali π

First of all, great matches! Each fit so well. Second, you just about killed me with that song for Bright Side. Gave me chills!

Right! I about teared up just thinking of how they fit together – listening to the song and thinking about the story. And thanks!!

Ooo this is such a fun challenge! I’m tempted to give it a go, even though I bet it will be tricky with the weird music I listen to, lol.

I actually knew some of yours! I am out of the loop with new music. That’s quite a variety you have on your playlist.

LOL! I listen to such a wide variety of music that I figured everyone would probably recognize something. I do have all the genres and all the decades on my playlist.

Great post, Alison! I’m always envious of people who are able to match songs and books. As much as love books + music, I always draw a total blank when I try to match them up.

Thanks! and LOL. I’m one of those ppl that is always turning what people say into songs and then every story into a book, so it wasn’t too hard.
