The Sunday Post 2/5/23

Happy Sunday! I hope you’ve all had a good week!

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

It’s a chance to share News. A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Personal Updates

It’s been mostly business as usual around here this week, but I did have to have a mammogram this morning (Friday), which isn’t any fun. I went out to eat this evening with the family, though, which was a nice treat. In the morning I’m driving to my son’s house to then continue driving from there for another birding trip. It’ll be in a parish of Louisiana that I don’t think I’ve ever been to, so that’ll be an adventure in itself. Oh, and the hubby got a nice pay raise this week, which was awesome, of course! So, minus the mammogram, it’s been a really good week.

What I Watched

  • Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between
  • The Last of Us
  • Several more episodes of The Legend of Korra

What I Read Last Week

  • Teach Me (I finished this one the previous week but didn’t get it into my Sunday Post) ~ While many people don’t love the first half of this book because you do have to deal with Abbi’s annoying mother (I hear ya), there were parts that I still really enjoyed, like her telling her ex that she’d been so hung up on to get over it because she wasn’t coming back. And yet, she was so mature in being able to work by his side and appreciate what he was doing for her family. Now Henry is definitely a bigger part of the book in the second half, but I’m just not loving how he seems to string her along so often. He only seems to give a little when he absolutely has to. Overall it fell somewhere between just okay and good. 3.5 Stars
  • The Casanova ~ I really enjoyed the hate to love and boss/employee tropes played out in this one. I didn’t love that Elliot seemed so shallow at first, but you do quickly learn that he isn’t at all that way when it comes to who he thinks he’ll spend his life with. I also really enjoyed that there was the dual relationship aspect to the story (one of my favorite tropes), but I didn’t like how it played out. I was VERY annoyed with it, so much so that I didn’t think I’d forgive Elliot. But, he won me over, and I found myself forgiving him. I’ll also say that I very much appreciated the appearances of Tristan and his sons. 4 Stars
  • The Taming of the Shrew ~ I’m reading through all of Shakespeare’s plays this year, and once again I was surprised that I enjoyed this one as much as I did. 4 Stars
  • He Started It ~ I picked this one up because of a recommendation from one of my besties. I really enjoy inheritance plots and road trips are always fun for me, too. However, I usually read these in the romance genre, so it was interesting getting them both in a thriller. It also featured an unreliable narrator and an ambiguous ending, which aren’t my favorites. However, I still enjoyed my time with this wild ride through much of the U.S. 4 Stars
  • Mafia Darling ~ I did not love Mafia Mistress. I only gave it 3 stars. However, everyone insisted it was worth reading just to get you to this book, and I get it. I didn’t think it was possible for me to fall for Fausto after his behavior in the first book, but he so redeemed himself here. And now I can’t wait to read the next book! 4.5 Stars
  • Violent Triumphs ~ I waited so very long to pick up this book, and I have no good excuse for it. It was just so incredibly good from start to finish. I had all the feels!! Excitement, fear, swooning, sorrow, and bliss! Natalia’s strength in this book (both physical and mental) were inspiring, and Cristiano knows how to make a girl feel special! SO GOOD! 5 Stars
