The Book Club Tag

Book clubs have an extra special place in my heart. I actually got to know my two besties through a book club we were participating in for our kids. I already knew them apart from the book club, but it was through books that I really got to know them. We quickly went from discussing the books our kids were reading to books we were reading and then on to how all the books related to us and that was all she wrote. They’re family now. We’ve watched our kids grow up together – some now have families of their own. We spend all the major holidays together, take trips together, and we make sure to get together at least once a month for the bulk of the day.

The Book Club Tag

RULES~

  • Answer the tag (prompts below) on the platform of your choice (blog, booktube, twitter, anything goes!): If you’re part of a book club, yourself, you can answer with the books you’ve read with them — or you can freestyle it with whatever book fits the question! Or with a specific character from a book who matches the prompt. Really, however you want to do it!
  • Link to the original post, Book It With Becca, and give me a pingback or comment below, so I can see your answers.
  • Tag friends! They can be fellow book club members or simply bookish friends who make your day a little brighter.
  • The most important rule: Have fun!

1. The Fearless Reader — reads everything, constantly, and probably started the book club, not realizing how much work it would be to keep everyone on-track talk about it

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Katy was the first person that came to mind for me here. She loves books and is so dedicated to her blog. But, she has no idea what she’s in for.

2. The Academic — tries to elevate the conversation and suggest Serious Books but is always stymied by the rest of the group (generally doesn’t mind)

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling

This just screams Hermoine Granger to me. I can’t imagine a more perfect fit, though, maybe she wouldn’t be too happy about being dismissed.

The Joyrider — never knows what book the club is reading but happily shouts encouragement and brings refreshments

A Kingdom of Ruin by K.F. Breene

Hadriel. He is undoubtedly one of my absolute favorite side characters ever written. He’s the clueless cheerleader for sure. He’d happily wander around serving everyone in his maid’s uniform. And he’ll step up in a big way when really needed.

4. The Agent of Chaos — just what it sounds like: enjoys stirring things up and dropping chaos bombs before disappearing in a cloud of smoke

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

While Alex doesn’t necessarily seem to want to bring trouble, it seems to follow her. And while she hasn’t disappeared, those around her might…

5. The Mom — is very concerned with the emotional and physical health of the rest of the group and of the characters in the books

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling

I’m having to resort back to this series because Mrs. Weasley is the first person that comes to mind here.

6. The Lovable Ghoul — Mostly harmless but likes to stand in the corner muttering — we pretend it’s normal

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

Ove was the first person that came to mind here. If he could be coerced into coming, he’d undoubtedly be grumbling in the corner about it the whole time.

I decided to go with the first character that came to mind for each of these prompts instead of spending hours contemplating the best fit – for the sake of not wasting those hours. LOL! I’m not tagging anyone because a lot of you have already been tagged. If you haven’t and would like to participate then please consider yourself tagged!

Happy Reading,

Alison

  3. I’m so glad you enjoyed the game, and I agree – sometimes the first character that comes to mind can be the most interesting! And I couldn’t agree with you more about A Man Called Ove – it’s definitely one of my all-time favorite books. Fredrik Backman has such a gift for creating complex, lovable characters who stay with you long after you finish reading. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and happy reading!
