Will Olivia let Alexander in enough for him to get close and protect her from a force threatening her very existence, or will she push him away, scared of letting Alexander in, in order to protect her heart?

A Beautiful Mess is the first installment of a three part series sure to captivate the heart with a story of secrets, courage, and love.

Recommended for ages 18 and up due to sexual situations, language, and mild violence.

My ****4 Star**** Review

First, let me warn you there’s a maddening cliffhanger at the end. However, there’s no waiting on the next book, so that’s awesome!

So, this book didn’t suck me in with the first chapter, but it was before 10% that I started getting sucked in. This is one of those books where you’ll be screaming stuff like, “How can you be so stupid?!?” to the characters, but you won’t want to stop reading. Plus, now that I’ve had a couple weeks to chew on my thoughts, it’s not those annoying moments that stand out for me. It’s the overall story. It’s a hot romance shrouded in mystery. Sometimes things get a little dark, too. Oh, but Mr. Burnham is HOT, so that always brightens things up!

So, I didn’t run to pick up the next book, but I’ll definitely be grabbing it. I do look forward to finishing the series, getting all the answers, and more of Alexander Burnham.

I recommend this to all fans of contemporary new adult romance, especially if you like a bit of mystery in your stories! Oh, and you can pick it up free on Amazon right now, so you’ll definitely want to run and grab it if you haven’t already!

Happy Reading,

Alison

Review ~ Deacon by Kristen Ashley

deacon

Deacon has an ugly history, a history that broke him, leaving him a ghost of a man. Out of necessity, he left the normal world to descend into the criminal world and found he fit. So he stayed. Cold as ice and living off the grid, Deacon has no intention to connect, not with anyone.

Then he returns to some remote cabins in the Colorado Mountains and finds they have new owners. One of them is Cassidy Swallow, a young woman willing to work hard to live her quiet dream in a house by a river surrounded by aspen and pine.

Suddenly, Deacon finds he’s at war. Cassidy’s pull for him to connect is strong. He fights it, but he loses, always coming back for more. But when he does, he gives her nothing.

From the first time she sees him, Cassidy knows Deacon is dead inside. She knows he’s the kind of man who could destroy a woman. But one night when Deacon’s control slips, Cassidy takes a chance.

He might break her. He also might be her dream come true.

My ****4 Star**** Review

So, this was my fourth book in this series. I’ve loved watching how all the characters are connected together, and yet have completely different personalities. However, this book fell just a little bit short of that mark for me. While I could still see a distinctness in Deacon and Cassidy, there were things that highly reminded me of Raid. Cassidy’s repetitive use of the word “sorry,” for instance, was definitely something Hanna used often. Then Deacon’s mannerisms in general often made me think of Creed. Forutunately, there was still enough that separted them to keep me interested. I really liked that Cassidy was both mild-mannered and sassy when she needed to be.
The setting was definitely unique, and I loved the story of how they come to cross paths to begin with. There are some funny moments, and some very sweet moments. Most of their moments could only be described as HOT, though. If you’re into bondage, then some of these scenes would be very pleasing to you! I only didn’t like that there were a couple places in the book that seemed too much about sex and seemed to be lacking in plot.
The story has a feel of completion, and yet could be considered cliffhangerish. There are definite questions left unanswered. Kristen definitely left several avenues for more possible books.
Overall, I liked the series, and I’m anxious to see how it compares to her other books being that these are the only Ashley books I’ve read. I hear I definitely need to read Motorcycle Man, so we’ll see…

About the Author ~ Kristen Ashley

Kristen

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Review ~ Raid by Kristen Ashley

raid

Title: Raid

Author: Kristen Ashley

Series: Unfinished Hero #3

Release Date: Feb. 25, 2013

Genre: Contemporary Romance/Erotica/BDSM

Hanna Boudreaux has lived in the small town of Willow all her life. She’s sweet, cute and quiet.

Hanna has a moment of epiphany when she realizes her crush for forever, Raiden Ulysses Miller, is not ever going to be hers. She sees her life as narrow and decides to do something about it.

Raiden Miller is the town’s local hero. A former Marine with the medal to prove his hero status, he comes home, shrouded in mystery. It takes a while, but eventually Hanna catches his eye.

After all these years of Raid and Hanna living in the same town, the question is why? Is Raid interested in Hanna because she’s sweet and cute? Or does Raid have something else going on?

My ****4.5 Star**** Review

If you’re into the whole rough alpha male thing, then this book is probably for you! If you’ve read the first two books in the series, you’ll be happy to see that both Knight and Creed make an appearance in this one, but this can be read as a stand-alone. Unfortunately they come in at a really bad time. Things get super ugly for the heroin in this story. I won’t give details, but be forewarned.
I really liked Hanna. She’s more my style of heroin than Sylvie was in Creed. She lives the simple life. She’s sweet and innocent and doesn’t have the first clue as to what to make of Raid’s alphaness. She’s been in love with him her whole life, though.
Raid doesn’t notice Hanna at first, but that’s because he’s on a mission. When Hanna becomes a part of that mission he can’t help but notice her and how taken with him she is. The spiciness just heats up from there! You can definitely expect some very HOT scenes. This story is full of some alpha goodness!
I recommend this to all alpha male romance lovers that aren’t afraid of a little bit of ugly. If you can’t stand the heat, then stay out of the kitchen!

My ****4 Star**** Review

The book had an exciting start, but I didn’t feel a connecting with Roz right away. I gradually warmed to her, though. I quite honestly felt like I was on pins and needles the whole way through with her. I kept wondering if she was going to do the right thing, or if I was going to have to jump in and strangle her. Andy, on the other hand, I enjoyed from the start. There was a lot of funny banter between the two of them that I enjoyed, too. The characters were all well-developed, and I even developed a soft spot for Andy’s mother although her role in the story wasn’t too big.

The plot itself kept me on my toes and guessing, which I enjoyed. You get the story through both Roz and Andy’s point of view. I personally preferred Andy’s, but that’s probably because I liked him better. I do have to admit, though, that while the plot was intriguing, I never felt like I was just going to die if I didn’t find out what happened next. There were a lot of surprises along the way, however, and I liked that it was unpredictable.

There were a couple negatives for me. First, some of the fetish stuff mentioned and/or done came off as weird to me – personal preference. Second, I thought some of the actions didn’t make any sense. For example, Roz goes horse back riding right after she’s severely beaten. And, they share with Andy’s parents friends that they are engaged and staying at his parents, knowing it would be gossiped about. Why do that when you’re in hiding?

Overall, I say it just reached 4 stars for me. I definitely enjoyed it enough to want to read more from Evie. However, I’d still have to say that I prefer 50 Shades. I recommend this to erotica/BDSM fans if you like a good plot mixed in. This is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone.

Warnings:strong language, strong sexual content (definitely not for minors), violence, and sexual assault
