Everyone has life’s challenges and can face them with fear or with trust. I choose to look at them as experiences where God blessed me with His curve balls thrown in. These curve balls are not the negative, painful or abusive life experiences that I have lived through, but rather the unexpected, blessings, gifts, and graces God threw in to help me through the experiences. I believe that these curve balls were given so that I can witness to His great and awesome presence in and through the experiences, the people in those experiences and in myself as living through and surviving the experiences as a better, not bitter human being.

In traversing the earth and living with the wilderness from Africa to the California Sierras, author Hoover Liddell came to realize the great energy of youth as we struggle to educate our planet and ourselves. Mountain Road is his journey of life and travel through the planet’s cities and towns as well as his time in San Francisco and living inside its schools. From a mountain road out of Africa, humankind continues its journey into a timeless universe. Human freedom is not dwelling in the past or the future but in the remarkableness and freshness of the present, where the adventure is.

His journey from the Nigerian rainforests and desert across Africa through the Serengeti plains and the mountain road of Kilimanjaro takes him to the mountains of the Sierras. In his expeditions he discovers moments of vibrant energy and days of staying alive that are more profound than all the years of teaching in the schools. He finds the wilderness empowers us to find our own way and deepens our capabilities as we educate ourselves and the earth.
Of what meaning is school or life itself if we are not serious and motivated for the adventure to educate the planet?

No one knows how unpredictable first graders can be better than a first-grade teacher. In Mommy Couldn’t Find Her Eyelashes, retired elementary educator Mary Jane Fizer shares excerpts from written papers and some of her favorite amusing and poignant conversations with her first-grade students, providing an unforgettable glimpse into the innocent, often uncensored minds and imaginations of children.

Fizer relies on more than forty years of experience in a classroom environment to offer a diverse compilation of funny sayings and heartfelt moments she experienced with her students. From the student who said he wanted to be both the President of the United States and a forklift operator to the boy who announced that he needed to see the nurse because he thought he had head lights, Fizer recalls the unpredictable moments of every day she spent in front of a classroom serving not only as a teacher, but also as a role model, stand-in mother, and a source of information who had to somehow find a creative answer to every creative question.

Mommy Couldn’t Find Her Eyelashes is a delightful collection of quotes from children that encourages all of us to find the pure happiness in every day—even when we are all grown up.
