Review ~ Driven by K. Bromberg (*Adult Content*)

driven

Title: Driven

Series: Driven #1

Author: K. Bromberg

Publication Date: May 8, 2013

Genre: Contemporary Erotic Romance

Rylee Thomas is used to being in control. But she’s about to meet the one man that just might make her enjoy losing it…

I am the exception to the rule.

In a world full of willing women, I’m a challenge to the roguish and achingly handsome Colton Donavan. A man used to getting exactly what he wants in all aspects of life. He’s the reckless bad boy constantly skating that razor thin edge toward out of control, on and off of the track.

Colton crashes into my life like a tornado: sapping my control, testing my vulnerabilities beyond their limits, and unintentionally penetrating the protective wall around my healing heart. Tearing apart the world I rebuilt so carefully with structure, predictability, and discipline.

I can’t give him what he wants and he can’t give me what I need. But after a glimpse beneath his refined exterior into the dark secrets of his damaged soul, can I bring myself to walk away?

Our sexual chemistry is undeniable. Our individual need for complete control is irrefutable. But when our worlds collide, is the chemistry enough to bring us together or will our untold secrets and battle of wills force us apart?

My ****4 Star**** Review

First I’m going to have to say that this is very 50 Shades fan fiction as 50 Shades is Twilight fan fic. So, keep that in mind coming into it, because you will see LOADS of similarities. Some of you will love that, and some will hate it.

For me, it was fine. I didn’t expect it going in, but I hadn’t read any reviews prior to reading this either.

It opens with an intriguing first scene and kept me interested from that point forward. It’s an easy fast-paced read.

I felt connected to both Rylee and Colton, but there were many times that I was completely agitated with their behavior. I found myself asking why Rylee didn’t question this, or why isn’t Rylee pissed? But, when Rylee and Colton are hooking up there’s plenty of steaminess. There’s also a couple moments where Colton let his sweet side loose and had me sighing.

So, while these characters held my connection and kept me cheering me on, they also frustrated me. With the major cliffhanger I had to immediately pick up the second book in the trilogy, though.

Happy Reading,

Alison

4.5* Review ~ Verum @Court_Writes

verum

Title: Verum

Series: The Nocte Trilogy #2

Author: Courtney Cole

Publication Date: Feb. 2, 2015

Genre: New Adult Psychological Suspense

The truth shall set you free.

My name is Calla Price and I’m drowning.

My new world is a dark, dark ocean and I’m being pulled under by secrets.

Can I trust anyone? I don’t know anymore.

The lies are spirals. They twist and turn, binding me with their thorns and serpentine tongues. And just when I think I have it figured out, everything is pulled out from under me.

I’m entangled in the darkness.

But the truth will set me free.

It’s just ahead of me, so close I can touch it. But even though it shines and glimmers, it has glistening fangs and I know it will shred me.

Are you scared?

I am.

My ****4.5**** Star Review

Have you read my review for Nocte yet? If not, HERE it is.

You should read it if you’re looking for my review for Verum because this book is a whole lot of what the first book was. Except, you can expect to be even more thoroughly confused! A WHOLE LOT more confused. This book made zero sense, and yet I know it will make complete sense.

I have to warn you, though, that it is completely maddening. COMPLETELIY!!! I wanted to get on here and give it a 3 star rating just for driving me CRAZY. Uh, it’s a good thing this is just a trilogy because I don’t think I can take much more!!

Nonetheless, if you loved the mind freak that Nocte was, you can expect nothing less from this book!

Happy Reading,

Alison

Review ~ Beautiful Redemption

beautiful

Title: Beautiful Redemption

Series: The Maddox Brothers #2

Author: Jamie McGuire

Release Date: Contemporary Romance

If A Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever. But what if he didn’t love you, first?

No-nonsense Liis Lindy is an agent of the FBI. Deciding she is married only to her job, she breaks off her engagement and transfers from Chicago to the field office in San Diego. She loves her desk. She is committed to her laptop. She dreams of promotions and shaking hands with the director after cracking an impossible case.

Special Agent in Charge Thomas Maddox is arrogant, unforgiving, and ruthless. He is tasked with putting away some of the world’s toughest criminals, and he is one of the best the Bureau has to offer. Though, as many lives as he’s saved, there is one that is beyond his reach. Younger brother Travis is faced with prison time for his involvement in a basement fire that killed dozens of college students, and the media want a conviction. Travis’s only savior is his unusual tie to the mob. In a deal that will spare his brother, Thomas has agreed to recruit Travis into the FBI.

Liis is stubborn, defiant, and yet somehow softens Thomas’s rough edges, making her the perfect agent to accompany him to the ceremony. Posing as a couple, they must travel to Travis & Abby’s beach vow renewal and give him the news, but when the pretending ends, she finds herself wondering if they were pretending at all.

In the second installment of the Maddox Brothers books, experience firsthand the mysterious world of the elusive Thomas Maddox, and how good love can be when you’re not the first, but the last.

My ****4.5**** Star Review

Let me say that during the opening scene I was wondering if I was even going to like this book. Thomas and Liis find themselves in bed immediately without even getting names. I just wasn’t feeling it. But, that’s where my negative feelings ended! From there things got a little funny and a whole lot serious! I saw alpha Thomas come out & it was like WHOA!! HELLO THOMAS! Travis has a match to rival his alphaness!

I would throat-punch someone if he ever said anything like that about you.”

Yeah! Like I said, the alpha shines through, and I so did not expect that after reading Beautiful Oblivion, but WOW! There were times that Thomas just had me giddy! I’m talking school girl here.

Aside from the HOT Maddox Brother, the story wasn’t lacking in plot either. There were little twists here and there that were pretty funny. Oh, but let me not forget to mention that Travis and Abby both make an appearance in this book. I was even surprised to see that Thomas sort of dwarfed Travis in this book. His older brother persona shined through!

Is this book better than Beautiful Disaster?? I’ve see a lot of yeses, but I’ll have to stay true to my Travis love. I think this quote sums him up ~

Their marriage has reinforced what I’ve always thought and lived by-that stalking, harassment, and inflicting general misery on a woman will eventually pay off.

HaHAHa! I thought that was great! Either way, if you’ve been working your way through the Beautiful and Maddox Brothers series, I highly recommend you taking the time for this one!!

Happy Reading,

Alison

Audiobook Review ~ The Vincent Brothers @abbiglines

vincent

Title: The Vincent Brothers

Series: The Vincent Boys #2

Author: Abbi Glines

Release Date: Jan. 1, 2012

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

Getting a boy to fall head-over-heels in love with you isn’t easy. Especially when he’s been in love with your cousin for as long as you can remember.

Lana has lived her life in her cousin’s shadow. Ashton always made perfect grades, had tons of friends, and looks model-perfect. And she’s always had Sawyer Vincent—the only boy Lana’s ever wanted—wrapped around her finger. But now things are different. Lana has a chance to make Sawyer see her, and she’s taking it. If only he’d get over Ashton—because Lana is sick of second-best.

Sawyer’s heart is broken. He’s lost his best girl to his best friend. And then Lana comes to town. Ashton’s cousin has always been sweet and soft-spoken, but now she’s drop-dead gorgeous as well. Sawyer doesn’t know if Lana can heal his broken heart, but spending time with her might at least make Ashton jealous.

What starts as a carefree fling becomes a lusty game of seduction. Sawyer and Lana may have different motives, but their scintillating hookups are the same kind of steamy. . . .

My *****5 Star***** Review

I was tearing up during the prologue, and it just kept getting better from there!

It’s been a while since I’ve read The Vincent Boys, but working on my Finishing the Series Reading Challenge, I knew this was a book I wanted to go back and read – although I’m seriously behind. This book was published 3 years ago!! Either way, I’m so super glad I decided to go back and read this gem!

Let me tell you Sawyer stole my heart before I hit chapter 1. I felt for him soooo bad! Oh, but I absolutely loved the change I saw in Sawyer as he’s dealing with his loss of Ashton. Lana is almost like a drug to him, and it’s HOT!!! There’s pleanty of chemistry and the sweetness that follows is enough to make any woman sigh.

But that awesomeness that is Lana and Sawyer isn’t the whole story. You get the bonus of Beau and Ash! They don’t just fade into the background and I so LOVED getting to see them overcome their own drama! Beau is just as alpha as ever, and I loved seeing that side of Sawyer start to come out, too, where Lana is concerned!

If you read The Vincent Boys and have been putting off The Vincent Brothers like I was, I soooo recommend you rectifying that NOW!!

About the Author ~ Abbi Glines

abbi

Abbi Glines is a #1 New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of the Rosemary Beach, Sea Breeze, Vincent Boys, and Existence series. She has a new YA series coming out in the fall of 2015 titled The Field Party Series . She never cooks unless baking during the Christmas holiday counts. She believes in ghosts and has a habit of asking people if their house is haunted before she goes in it. She drinks afternoon tea because she wants to be British but alas she was born in Alabama. When asked how many books she has written she has to stop and count on her fingers. When she’s not locked away writing, she is reading, shopping (major shoe and purse addiction), sneaking off to the movies alone, and listening to the drama in her teenagers lives while making mental notes on the good stuff to use later. Don’t judge.

Finishing the Series Reading Challenge ~ February Update

Finishing

It’s been just over a month since I’ve started this challenge, so I thought it would be a good time to give an update. For covers, I decided to just share the cover of the first book in each series to make things simpler.

I’ll start with the series I’ve completed or have gotten up to date on:

Beautiful series by Jamie McGuire

beautiful

Unfinished Hero series by Kristen Ashley

raid

Death Collectors series by Jessica Sorensen

ember

Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Obsidian

The Maddox Brothers by Jamie McGuire

Beautiful Oblivion

Unraveling You series by Jessica Sorensen

Unraveling

The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines

vincent

So, that’s 7 series so far. My goal for the year is 4, so I’m good so far. Several of these series have more books to be released this year, so I will have to stay caught up to maintain these numbers! Oh, and I’m not counting series that only have one book released so far.

Now, here’s the series that I have read at least one book towards this year (I’m not counting series that I’ve only read one book in):

The Coincidence series by Jessica Sorensen

thecoincidence

I’d already started this series prior to 2015, but I’ve read two more books this year. I have just two more to be caught up.

The Keatyn Chronicles by Jillian Dodd

stalk

I read Adore Me this year, book # 4.5. I have just two more books to complete this series.

So that’s 7 series that I’m caught up on or finished, and a total of nine series that I’ve worked on this year. I might add another challenge in soon just for fun since I’m doing so well on these. Not biting off too much from the start has definitely helped me to stay on top of things this year.

I already have in my possession the last two books in The Keatyn Chronicles, so I expect to finish those soon. Plus, I plan on purchasing Happenstance 3 soon to finish that series. It’ll be towards the end of March before any more books in the series I’m caught up on will be released. March 24th Awakening You in Sorensen’s Unraveling You series will be released, and on the 31st she’s releasing Spark in her Death Collectors series. I swear she never sleeps!

So, how are you doing with the goals you’ve set for yourself? Feeling overwhelmed? If so, I definitely recommend just focusing on just one challenge at a time until you’ve reached your goal. It’s definitely helped me out this year!

Happy Reading,

Alison

Review ~ Opposition

Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came.

War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing.

My *****5 STAR***** Review

Is it okay if I take a moment to mourn before I start this review? Seriously? It’s been 13 days since I’ve finished Opposition, and I am so missing Daemon. I knew this would happen. I’ve been dreading the separation books ago, knowing the end would eventually come.

Aside from Daemon, this book was an exciting read. It’s loaded with action and Kat has grew into this serious kick butt, take no prisoners chick worthy of admiration! Oh, and she still loves her books.

This book doesn’t skimp on the intensity of the previous one, either. I went into full-fledged freak out mode in this one! I almost think I could have gotten away with suing JLA for the heart attack she about gave me!

Seriously, though, I have to give Jennifer some serious love for all the awesome book blogger love happening in this series. I’m a forever fan, for sure! I can’t wait to read more from her! Oh, and if you’ve stumbled onto this review without reading any of the series yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING ON!?!?!?!?!

Happy Reading,

Alison

Review ~ Raveling You ~ Jessica Sorensen @jessFallenStar

raveling

Title: Raveling You

Series: Unraveling You #2

Author: Jessica Sorensen

Release Date: Jan. 13, 2015

Genre: Contemporary YA Romance / Drama

Ayden Gregory may want to keep running from his nightmares, but he no longer has a choice. His past is catching up with him. And fast. He relies on one person to keep him from crumbling. His best friend Lyric Scott.

Lyric feels helpless watching her best friend’s world turn upside down. But she does her best to remain positive and upbeat. She gets their band their first gig and even with everything going on, her relationship with Ayden starts to heat up.

But when danger enters Ayden’s life again, even Lyric might not be able to help him.

My ****4.5**** Star Review

I am sooo loving this series! My only complaint is that the books just aren’t long enough! I WANT MORE!!

If you haven’t read the first book, then stop here! This book picks up where Unraveling You stops, so this review will probably contain spoilers for book 1. You can read my review on Unraveling You HERE.

My heart so breaks for Ayden. He has been through hell, and they want him to relive it. He’s starting to remember some things, but he really worries about how Lyric will feel about him after all this. He’s trying to deal with all this while still fighting to discover where his sister is and what happened to his brother. There’s also a break-in and hypnotic therapy to contend with, and that’s just the start. You start wondering, if you haven’t already, if this series is about to take a serious trip on the dark side.

The chemistry between Ayden and Lyric is just as strong as ever. The tension remains thick, and Ayden is taking steps forward. You always wonder if they will lead to two steps back, though.

So, you have the love story with two teens trying to overcome one dark past, a major mystery, cult issues, and a possible murder to solve. It’s definitely shaping up into one incredible story!

If you enjoyed Unraveling You, then you’ll definitely want to pick up this second book! Book 3, Awakening You (doesn’t that title sound awfully ominous), will be released Mar. 24th. Then book 4, Entangling Us, will follow Apr. 21st. I CAN’T WAIT!! Jessica, you are one serious powerhouse of an author!

Happy Reading,

Alison
