When author Joe Sinclair turned sixty-two years old, he began his quest to run as many marathons as possible. Less than five years later, he has logged more than four thousand miles, participating in more than 150 marathons. In his memoir, Putting Life on the Finish Line, he tells his life story from his early years through his late sixties and details how he achieved his running goals.

Sinclair shares running’s rewards and challenges—crossing the finish line at the toughest marathon in America run entirely on asphalt; completing three marathons in three days in the hot July weather; fighting off attacks by vicious dogs during a lonely, rural, mountain marathon; and helping a struggling young marathoner achieve his very first marathon finish.

Offering personal secrets for success, tips and tricks, nutritional and fitness plans, pre-race plans, and inspiring stories, Putting Life on the Finish Line provides encouragement for those who believe they are too old to accomplish a dream. It shows that personal health and fitness is attainable at any age.

Guest Post by Joe Sinclair

Throughout my life, I have constantly been told that I was either too young or too old to achieve a goal that I had set for myself. With determination, sacrifice, and a total commitment to achieve success, I have been very fortunate to complete over 160 marathons after I reached my 62nd birthday. Running over four thousand miles of competitive races in my mid-sixties has been a goal that very few people expected me to do. More important is the fact that I take great pride in helping others to begin their walking and running programs. The book Putting Life on the Finish Line offers personal secrets for success, tips, and tricks, nutritional and fitness plans, pre-race plans, and inspiring stories for others to enjoy.

Title: Map to Happiness
Author: The Reverend Peter K. Stimpson
Publisher: iUniverse
Genre: Inspirational/Self-Help
Pages: 206

Purchase at iUniverse

What is my purpose? How can I be happy? For thousands of years, people have pondered these big questions, often finding the answers elusive. In Map to Happiness, Peter Stimpson, an Episcopal priest and experienced therapist, doesn’t claim to have all the answers. Still, he generously shares a wealth of wisdom he has learned by counseling and ministering to people for more than thirty-five years.

Stimpson anchors happiness in a pyramid of principles: insecurity, power, and success. He explains that by understanding everyone is insecure, we can take back our power from others to define our worth and reach for success in lasting values, not things. His message is clear: who you become is more important than what you attain.
Stimpson illustrates the power of his trilogy by answering today’s ubiquitous questions related to love of yourself, your spouse, your children, and life’s challenges of stress, work, illness, anger, and death. Using both spiritual and psychological perspectives, Stimpson frankly discusses how we stray off the path to happiness, but more important, how we can get back on track.

If you are confused or lost, open this map and begin your journey. You’ll find help sifting through confusing issues with easy-to-understand explanations and ready-to-use solutions.

Shared Stories from Daughters of Alzheimer’s is a support group in print for those escorting a loved one on the Alzheimer’s journey.

Nine women map the passage of a parent through Alzheimer’s disease, describing the evolution of their own emotional responses to the disease and the changes it effects in the patient and in her relationship with family members. The book invites the reader to take a first step in healing from Alzheimer’s ripple effect by beginning to journal about the experience.

“Use the stories here as tools to understand your own painful situation. Employ them to help you empower yourself, sort through your emotions and begin to heal. Seize upon that which makes sense to you and disregard that which seems irrelevant. Then, pick up your favorite pen and notebook and ‘talk’ about what is going on in your journey with Alzheimer’s disease. We wish you well.”
-Persis Granger, Editor, Shared Stories from Daughters of Alzheimer’s

“An enthralling, ambitious and much-needed effort…most definitely the sort of work on Alzheimer’s that needs to get public notice.”
-Karla Morales, People’s Medical Society.
