I’m just gonna jump right in today!!

Ch. 27 I Vow Not to Be a Psychopath

The whole house was busy preparing for Mr. Dumpty’s party. Arelia didn’t have the opportunity all day to chat with Lucus, and she missed him. She was in her room getting ready for the party listening to Sabrina go on about what lingerie to wear for Lucus. Arelia suggested that Sabrina take things slow, and Sabrina said she couldn’t wait any longer. I was so excited about what Arelia said next!

“Maybe he’s not interested in you,”…

Sabrina immediately started questioning Areila, and of course, Arelia backed right down. I was proud of her, though, in that she didn’t take back what she had said. That was at least a step in the right direction.
Sabrina suggested a dress for Arelia, and then mentioned that Arelia might want to work things out with Tony. This only made Arelia think of how she had changed over the last few days. She found she no longer feared Mrs. Dreaux. She wasn’t going to put up with any more of their crap. She was done with feeling inferior. She was getting bolder!

I wanted Lucus, and I wasn’t afaid to admit that anymore.

Arelia quickly reminded herself that she’d probably chicken out when she actually saw Lucus, but she realized she was finally headed in the right direction. She vowed not to be a psychopath towards him anymore at the very least.
Then Arelia started getting a bad feeling about the night ahead, except it didn’t have anything to do with Lucus. She was worried about Louis. She started questioning everything again, but then gave herself a pep talk. She put on the Come to Me Oil and slipped the Black Arts Oil in her bra. Then she reflected on what Gran-Ibo had told her.

…I can’t feel something for one without having feelings for the other.

I’m still trying to figure that out! Then Arelia left Sabrina to finish getting ready while she headed downstairs for the party.

Whew!! FINALLY Arelia is starting to behave a little more like someone I appreciate. She’s getting a backbone – albeit it’s pretty crooked right now, but at least it’s finally there!! With the book almost over, it’s obvious it’ll be another big cliffhanger. At least I don’t have to wait on the next book!

What do y’all think about Arelia’s sudden change of heart?

Happy Reading,
Alison

Now on to Kira Saito’s Punished.

Ch. 26 Come to Me Oil

Arelia awoke with her Grand-mere already gone and Sabrina rambling in her sleep about a honeymoon with Lucus. Arelia took a moment to ponder on her time with Lucus when she had been trapped in the past by Louis. Then she took a spiritual bath before heading downstairs. Henri greeted her in the kitchen and informed her that Bea and Mae were having a chat. Arelia was ecstatic that they were finally communicating. Arelia grabbed her breakfast and headed to the garden where she was stopped by Ivan.

“So how was it on the other side? Who did you see?”

Arelia huffed about there being no “other side”. She wanted Ivan to leave, but he just kept following her deeper into the garden.

“I just want to know what you saw, why can’t you tell me?…”

OF COURSE he wants to know – he’s the one that sent her there!!

Arelia agreed to tell him if he left her alone. She spoke of seeing a man that was fiercely in love, was kind, and hardworking. Aunt Mae interrupted then and sent Ivan away to change. Arelia confessed to Mae that she had no idea how to find Louis. Mae recommended Come to Me oil. The oil would make Louis want to kiss her, and he’d be willing to answer all Arelia’s questions just to get that kiss. Arelia had a quick thought of using it on Lucus, and Mae told her that wasn’t necessary. Mae left Arelia to get the supplies. It was Mr. Dumpty’s birthday, and there was to be a party for him. Mae returned and told Arelia to wear the oil to the party. Arelia questioned whether it would all work. Mae told her to have faith and reminded Arelia that her thoughts were her most powerful weapon.

I feel certain that we’re about to discover that Ivan is indeed Louis!! I’m extremely curious to see how this whole thing with Louis/Ivan plays out!!

Remeber to be thinking of another book you’d like us to read & discuss together. If I pick your book and you participate in the discussions, then I’ll have a little prize for ya.

We’re up to chapter 25! Only 4 more chapters left!!

Ch 25 Re-birth

Arelia could hear someone calling her name. She awoke to Grand-mere Bea, Aunt Mae, Henri, Sabrina, Lucus and Tony. Arelia had been out 3 WHOLE DAYS!! She found herself staring at Lucus wishing he’d remember the kiss somehow. Mae had called Bea, and that’s why she was present. Grand-mere Bea asked for a moment of privacy with Arelia to inform her that they were leaving.

“Grand-mere, I’m tired of running…”

Bea understood why Arelia felt she needed to stay, but Bea still wasn’t happy about it. Arelia told her Grand-mere that it was time to forgive her sister, and then Arelia told Bea all about what had happened during her trip to the past. She didn’t, however, share her kiss with Lucus, but she told Bea how different he had been – how alive.

“…He needs someone like you.”

Arelia was surprised that her Grand-mere approved, but Bea told her how Lucus had been pacing outside her door for the past three days.

“I think I’m falling in love with him, and I don’t know how to tell Sabrina,”…

WOW!! I am SHOCKED! FINALLY!!!

Grand-mere Bea stressed to Arelia that she really needed to fess up to Sabrina. Then, Sabrina herself interrupts – impatient to talk to Arelia. Sabrina asked what happened, and Arelia told her she was fine and distracted Sabrina – as per usual. Then Arelia let Sabrina gush over Lucus a while. I had hoped Arelia was ready to finally speak up about Lucus!
That night Arelia and Sabrina both fell asleep in Grand-mere Bea’s arms.

So….I’m aggravated that Arelia didn’t go ahead and fess up to Sabrina. BUT, I think she is finally about to. I hope I’m not mistaken. I don’t know how much more of that crap I can take! Oh, and I’m certain she’ll discover that Ivan is Louis. I wonder how Arelia will react to that?

Chapter 24. Just 5 more chapters left!

Ch. 24 Gran-Ibo
We finished chapter 23 with Arelia finally leaving Lucus. She then waded through to the swamp in search of Gran-Ibo – the one and only spirit able to help her find her way back.

“Did you bring food for me and my canary?”

Arelia let Gran-Ibo know she brought cornbread and blue-grey candles. Gran-Ibo then invited her in, but Arelia had no clue where “in” was. Turns out “in” was in a tree – Gran-Ibo’s home.

Kira really impresses me with the great descriptions she gives – of both the the spirits and the setting. She’s able to do it well, too, without droning on for a long time as some authors do with their descriptions.

Arelia sat down and ate with Gran-Ibo and her canary Sammie, who had in fact made the gumbo. After dinner, Gran-Ibo asked Arelia why she wanted to go back, and Arelia said because she wasn’t a slave.

“Everyone is a slave to one thing or another. What you experienced was physical slavery. Just because you go back to your own time, it doesn’t mean you still won’t be a prisoner.” – I LOVE this quote!

Gran-Ibo then asked Arelia what she was a slave to, and Arelia admitted to being afraid of not being good enough. Gran-Ibo said she’d only send Arelia back if she promised to set herself free. Gran-Ibo told Arelia she needed to stand up for herself and she needed to go after the one she loved. Gran-Ibo then went on about Louis not really being evil – just sad and angry because of what he’d went through.

“You can’t love one without feeling something for the other.”

Is Gran-Ibo saying this because Louis and Lucus are both trapped, or is something else going on?

Arelia was finding it impossible now to forgive Louis after Gran-Ibo informed Arelia that Louis was the one that called Sousson Pannan. Between that and Louis trying to trap a part of her soul in the past, Arelia was furious. Gran-Ibo patiently described how Louis had been testing her strength, and he knew that Arelia was strong enough to get back to her present-day body. Gran-Ibo explained to Arelia how she needed to find Louis and bind his powers until she could trust him. She was to use Black Arts Oil. She had to carry it with her at all times and then place it on her lips when she came in contact with Louis and kiss him.

Arelia whined about the smell of the oil, and I love how Sammie kept putting Arelia in her place. Finally Gran-Ibo said she could return home.

I can’t wait to see how Arelia is going to behave when she gets back. I really hope she can start standing up for herself – without being a witch about it (no pun intended).

Discussing Punished Ch. 23 Beautiful Spirit

Thanks for joining us! We’re on chapter 23 now – almost through with this book. Please give me some recommendations for our next book discussion. If you’re the first person to recommend a book I choose, and you participate in the discussion, then I’ll have a little prize for ya.

Ch. 23 Beautiful Spirit

After regaining her composure Arelia noticed the big house was all lit up. A ball was taking place. Voices floated from the front porch. Arelia wondered if Lucus was in attendance. She also wondered how he’d take her in her present state – covered in mud and blood.

“You don’t have time, Arelia. Come here,”…

Brise tried to hurry Arelia along. She told him about keeping her previous promise to him; she had told Erzulie about him.

“Thank you, Arelia LaRue,…She thinks I’m beautiful. She called an ugly spirit like me beautiful.”

Brise then told her that the one who could help her was the one she loved. Arelia was frustrated by this – not having a clue who or what he was talking about.

“Lucus,…Silly Arelia, you leave a little piece of your soul behind everywhere you go, and in every year you live.”

Someone interrupts.

“Are you a spirit?”

Lucus. He was leaning against a tree drinking from a bottle of whiskey. Arelia was shocked at how different Lucus looked. This Lucus didn’t carry around the sadness that the present-day Lucus was buried under. Arelia told him that she was a spirit and needed to find the swamp. Lucus assured her that he’d help, but then questioned her about her bleeding. Arelia informed him that spirits were capable of bleeding. Lucus used his jacket and some of his whiskey to clean the blood off her face. He then asked her about her hand and ripped off one of his shirt sleeves to wrap her hand.

“Why aren’t you at the party?”

“She’s not there. Can you believe she said she was too busy to see me tonight? So I’ve decided to drink her away.”

Arelia couldn’t imagine how anyone would stand Lucus up. He told Arelia that the girl may be in love with someone else, but that he suddenly couldn’t even remember the girl’s name. Lucus then professed to not imagining his life without Arelia and wanted to show her New Orleans. Arelia questioned his sanity. He responded by pulling her close.

“Not insane, I simply know what I want, and I want you.”

Lucus tried to kiss her, but she stopped him. Arelia found herself wishing she could go see New Orleans with this happy Lucus. Brise warned her that she needed to get going, but Lucus continued his coaxing as he buried his face in her neck. They continued flirting and Arelia found she immensely enjoyed it. Lucus said he’d follow her anywhere – even to live with her in the swamp.
Bade then cut in to warn Arelia, but Arelia continued to be distracted by Lucus. She finally convinces him that she needs to leave. He starts taking her towards the swamp, but then stops.

“I would do anything to make you stay,”…

Arelia told him that she was a spirit and had to go back where she came from. Lucus ran his fingers through her hair, cupped her cheeks, wrapped her in his arms and kissed her. She thought of how easy it would be to just stay in his arms forever.
Bade warned that she’d be trapped.
Brise ordered her to get to the swamp.
Arelia reluctantly pulled back.

“Will I ever see you again, beautiful spirit?”

Arelia thought with jealousy that he wouldn’t even remember her in the morning due to his drunken state.
Lucus yelled out to her that they belonged together and that she’d come back to him – that he LOVED her. Arelia said that they’d barely had five minutes together, but Lucus said it was more than enough for him. {I thought of his parent’s story.}
Arelia walked away and whispered these words:

“Be safe, Lucus LaPlante,…You’re a beautiful spirit, too. I’m sorry I can’t stay and save you from your miserable fate. I can’t wait to see you again.”

So we get Lucus back. I missed him – despite all of Arelia’s silliness. It’s crazy that they finally kiss & it’s in the past. I’m hoping this will change her behavior towards him in the present! Ican’t believe that she still couldn’t even bring herself to tell him that she loved him there in the past. I liked this more aggressive Lucus of the past, but I also love the maturity in the present-day Lucus. I hope when things finally get resolved for Arelia and Lucus that the story won’t just end there.

Punished ~ Ch. 22 Mait’ Carrefour

http://www.amazon.com/Punished-Paranormal-Fantasy-Romance-ebook/dp/B007GN4294/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1365884354&sr=8-1&keywords=

PunishedCh. 22 Mait’ Carrefour

Bade urged Arelia on as she second-guessed leaving. Arelia took off running and ran until she was completely out of breath. She stopped behind an oak tree thinking there was no way she’d pull off the escape. Her feet were bleeding and her hand was throbbing excrutiatingly. She sunk to the ground and dropped her head into her hands.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

The slave driver had found her. He picked her up and shook her. She then kicked him so hard in the shin that the man released her. She took off running again. She ran as fast as she could but then tripped over her dress. Blood trickled down her cheek. She had cut her head on a rock. She looked up and into the face of the driver.

“Nowhere to run, slave,”…

Arelia knew she needed help, and she wanted to call on someone as dark as the slave driver. The driver kicked her in the stomach and began dragging her back. Arelia started to panic and couldn’t think who to call on. Then it came to her – Mait’ Carrefour.
The driver stumbled and fell on his face, so Arelia took off again as the spirit called her towards him. She raced towards him, but noticed the driver quickly gaining.
Mait’ Carrefour stood before her tall and handsome, smoking a pipe.

“I want him to feel the same pain he inflicts on others.”

The driver grabbed her, threw her to the ground, and drove his boot into her ribs. Arelia saw a snake, and Mait’ told her to squeeze the snake like she wanted to squeeze the driver. The driver pulled out his whip, so Arelia didn’t hesitate. She squeezed tight!

“Keep on squeezing Arelia, and I’ll keep on whipping,…If you kill that snake in my name, I’ll take him with me.”

Arelia held on until the driver was bloodied and screaming, and then she let go.

“Not strong enough to make the sacrifice?”

“Thank you for your help, Mait’ Carrefour, but I don’t want to be as ugly as him.”

Then Arelia ran!!

We had some adrenalin pumping action taking place with this chapter. It was a nice change to the “do I love him, do I not.” This chapter showed Arelia still has a heart. With as much suffering as the slave driver caused, she still couldn’t bring about his death. Now it’s time for Arelia to start displaying a conscious with the rest of her actions.

What do ya think??

Discussing Punished ~ Ch. 20 – 21

http://www.amazon.com/Punished-Paranormal-Fantasy-Romance-ebook/dp/B007GN4294/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1365377080&sr=1-1&keywords=Punished

If you’re just joining us, we’re discussing Kira Saito’s Punished, the second book in the Arelia LaRue series, chapter by chapter. If you’d like to discuss it with us, you can pick up here, or go back to any of the previous chapters I’ve posted on. I LOVE comments!!

Ch. 20 Out in the Cotton Fields

Arelia marched out with the hundreds of other slaves to the cotton fields.

They varied greatly in age and height, but all of their faces told the same sordid tale of utter misery.

The slaves began strapping on large sacks and grabbed large baskets, but Arelia stood shell-shocked. Louis told her to quickly get to work before she was seen, but she asked, “Why?”. Louis wondered aloud what had gotten into her. He went and placed a sack around her neck and a basket in her arm.

“Don’t draw attention to yourself. They aren’t going to accept any less than two hundred pounds…”

Arelia reluctantly started picking, realizing there was no possible way she’d ever pick 200 pounds. She kept waiting to wake up from the nightmare, but she continued picking for the next eighteen hours.

My hands were raw and sore. My feet ached in excrutiating agony, and I was thirsty as hell. I was ready to take the strap straight off the bag and make a noose out of it. I didn’t because I had nowhere to actually hang myself.

For a moment Arelia felt absolute rage towards Lucus, but she knew it wasn’t really his fault. She did, however, finally understand why Louis would hate Lucus. {Kira made me feel rage myself for what many slaves had to endure. She painted very vivid pictures in just few words.}
At the end of the day Louis realized Arelia didn’t have nearly enough cotton and began scooping handfuls of his into her basket. Arelia went ahead of Louis to have her’s weighed, and the driver “passed” her. Louis was next…,”Fail.” Louis was thrust into the corner and whip met flesh as Arelia held back tears and vomit. As much as Arelia hated the present-day Louis, this one had taken her beating. Sousson Pannan tempted her with his own form of “help”, and she was just about to give in until Bade showed up.
The beating finally stopped and Louis stumbled over to Arelia.

“Back to the cabin, you’ll know what to do,…”

This seems to be another sign that this Louis, not just the present-day Louis, knows Arelia. Or, is he thinking that she is her great geat-great grand-mere, maybe? He is calling her Arelia, though. What do y’all think?

Ch. 21 Healing Louis

Arelia helped Louis back to the cabin and he laid down on his stomach.

“Arelia, go get the herbs.”

Arelia told him that she didn’t know where they were, but he told her that she needed to quit playing games. She thought about where they’d be hidden and remembered the journal. Arelia dug until she found a box.

“Hurry, Arelia. I’m supposed to meet her tonight,”…

{So, Arelia is not “the girl”. I’m definitely still confused about how he’d know her, then.}

Arelia realized that if Louis left, then that would be her chance to escape. She wondered who he was going to meet. It was a major struggle for Arelia to even look at Louis’ back. She put the oils and herbs on and Louis cried out. Then he told her to hurry because “she” would be waiting by the river. Arelia told Louis to tell her about the girl as Arelia sliced open her palm to sacrifice her blood for his healing. Louis said that the girl worked in the big house.

“I love her; we’re going to be together forever. She’s promised me that already. When I’m with her, I forget all this misery, and I know redemption is close for me.”

{How can you not feel bad for Louis here?}

Arelia called to Erzulie, and Erzulie accepted her sacrifice for Louis’ healing. Louis stated that the spirits always favored Arelia.

Louis got up to leave and gave Arelia a kiss on her cheek. She had a strong sense of deja – vu. She wracked her brain over how she knew him. {I’m thinking this totally has to be Ivan. Ivan is such a tortured soul.} As Louis was leaving, Arelia thought to ask what he thought of Lucus. He seemed taken aback. He didn’t really have any strong opinions of Lucus, claiming he was nice enough.
Louis then thought that Arelia was asking because she was interested in Lucus. Louis warned her away from Lucus and suggested somone like Edward. Arelia wondered who Edward was. {Is this Edward going to be someone significant?} Arelia sent Louis on his way, wishing him a good night.
As Louis left, Arelia thought of Mrs. Dreaux. Arelia thought of how she didn’t want to waste her whole life trying to prove that she was good enough for Tony – good enough for Mrs. Dreaux’s life. {I’m hoping this is enough to keep her permenantly away from Tony.}
Arelia then searched the cabin for cornbread and a blue-grey candle. She changed back into her green dress running purely on adrenaline. She also thought to grab some oil and herbs in case they were needed and headed out of the cabin.

If I didn’t escape now and reconnect with my soul, I would be a prisoner for eternity in this plane. My life would be a never-ending battle that would consist of rotten food and intolerable amounts of labor. Escape was my only option.

These last two chapters have been a bit rough. It’s never easy looking at the evils of our past.
At this point, I’m certain that Louis is Ivan, but I have no idea as to who this mystery girl is. Any ideas???

Discussing Saito’s Punished ~ Ch. 19

Moving along in our discussion of Punished…

Ch. 19 A Day in the Life…

Arelia wakes up next to a screaming Louis. He’s having a nightmare, so Arelia wakes him. She’s in his cabin. She’s not sure if she’s dreaming or not. Arelia feels a strong sense of familiarity with Louis, but she can’t figure out why. The strange thing is Louis isn’t surprised by her presence. He speaks to her as if he knows her.
Louis does question her clothing, though. Arelia is still wearing the green dress that Sabrina had given her. Louis thinks she stole it. He then points to an ugly pile of rags, informing her that they are what she should be wearing. He warns her to change quickly before she gets a lashing. Arelia’s confused. She still thinks she’s dreaming.

“Only an hour till sunrise, no time for games, Arelia. Go on and get dressed now.”…

Louis even knows her name. Kira’s good at keeping you guessing!
Louis starts to leave to retrieve some water, but Arelia stops him with a scream. Another rat. Arelia opens and closes her eyes trying to wake up. It doesn’t work. Louis calms her and leaves to get some water.
Arelia calls out to Erzulie for help, and thankfully she shows. Erzulie doesn’t have good news, though.

“Louis has a piece of your soul. He is making you live in the world in which he wants you to live.”

Erzulie then informs her that Louis is no ghost. He’s real, just like Lucus. Also, Louis happens to be a powerful voodoo king. He is making Arelia live his past for some reason. Arelia’s only hope for escape is to take some cornbread and blue-grey candles to Gran-Ibo to ask for help. She is the spirit of wisdom and patience. Arelia is warned that Gran-Ibo doesn’t tolerate lying of any sort.
Arelia questions Erzulie further and discovers that her present-day body is in a coma. She is comforted by the fact that Louis has no intentions of harming her body. Erzulie leaves, and Arelia reluctantly dons her “potato sack” of a dress. A horn blows and Louis rushes in, warning they can’t be late!!

Ahh, things are just starting to heat up. I’m sooo glad. I was getting sick of the, “blah, blah,…I like Lucus, I don’t like Lucus…” Kira paints such a vivid picture of the world of spirits and voodoo, though, making it impossible to pull away. I always feel like I’m right there in New Orleans on the plantation.

PUNISHED ~ Discussing ch. 17 – 18

Moving along…

Ch. 17 People Like That Don’t Care About People Like Us

After she left, for some strange reason I felt guilty. I hadn’t really lied to her about Lucus and me, because there wasn’t anything going on…

This is where we pick up in chapter 17. I’m sure it’s no surprise. She should feel guilty!!
Arelia makes her way to the garden and finds Lucus waiting for her there. She tries explaining her earlier ordeal with Tony, but Lucus stops her and pulls her in for a hug. Arelia asks him if he’s ever loved someone that hurt him. He says he has but that it was a long time ago. {I’m still trying to figure out who this is. I like that the whole book isn’t too predictable!} Lucus tells Arelia about how the girl he loved just up and disppeared without any explanation. Lucus asks if Tony had hurt her, and she nods. Arelia tries changing the subject to a lighter topic, while still in Lucus’ embrace, but Ivan interrupts.

“Hey queen, we need you to help out that fat kid…

Arelia reluctantly goes in, and only to find that Ivan has fooled her. He starts drilling her about what she sees in Lucus and pushes her up against a wall. Arelia smacks him. {Go girl!} She’s now trying to figure out what Ivan has against Lucus.

“…People like that don’t care about people like us…”

Arelia lets some of what Ivan says seep in. She starts worrying about whether Lucus is just another Tony. She wonders if that’s what Ivan is warning her about.

Ch. 18 Red Brick dust, Seven-Day Candles and a Kingdom Under the Sea

Arelia sneeks up to her room and follows through with everything Aunt Mae instructed her to do, concerning her protection. Arelia starts to reflect on her life and what she’s becoming when Sabrina bursts into the room. Sabrina starts gushing about being in love. Arelia cringes inside, but doesn’t dare say a word. Sabrina notices the necklace around Arelia’s neck and asks about it. Arelia lies again, saying that Aunt Mae gave it to her. {Will the lies never end?}
Sabrina falls asleep, so Arelia starts reading in Louis’ journal again.

The hunger is constant, but the moment I caught sight of you the agony disappeared. Your lips spoke the words ‘ I love you’,…

I waited for you down by the river, but you never came.

The sight of you made the pain of 50 lashes feel like none. You came back to me today and held me in your arms.

Arelia falls asleep while thinking of the horror that Louis must have lived through.

My sentiments: I’m glad these two chapters weren’t as nauseating as ch. 16. There were still several times that I wanted to choke Arelia and even Lucus, but it wasn’t as bad.

Discussing Punished, Book 2 of the Arelia LaRue series Ch. 16

Welcome back to our discussion of Punished, the second book in Kira Saito’s Arelia LaRue series. If you’re just joining us, feel free to start with ch. 1-3. Comments are welcome on all older posts. I love to talk about books!!

Ch. 16 What Will Happen to Me?

We left the last chapter with Tony kissing Arelia and her storming off. Now she makes her way to the porch and stops when she sees Lucus. Bade whispers to her that Lucus saw everything. Arelia, in typical style, shrugs Bade off as if she doesn’t have anything going on with Lucus.

“You disappeared,”…
“Why, did you miss me?”
“Perhaps, just a little.”

One second she denies having any feelings for him, and the next she’s totally flirting!

Lucus then produces a necklace for Arelia. It’s silver with a dagger charm that has a small ruby in the center. Lucus shares the story of how Arelia’s great great-great grand-mere gave it to his mom when she was struggling with Lucus’ “condition”. The necklace is a representation of Erzulie’s strength.

“Seven stabs of the dagger,…My blood is pouring down.”

Lucus lets Arelia know by reciting the chant, that he had heard her that night. So naturally, Arelia starts fretting about him having heard her singing to him, too. But, this is all quickly interrupted. Tony shows up!

“We just kissed, and now you’re with this guy? I know you felt something, Arelia. You and I aren’t over.”

Oh, that was so low of him. Major turnoff! If she was to hook back up with him, I’d probably stop reading! Well, maybe…

Tony informs Lucus that Arelia will never love him, but this is all broken up by Sabrina’s drunken presence. Apparently she’s been introduced to the Hurricanes. Sabrina tries to drag Lucus off to the ballroom, but he excuses himself, claiming he has business in the kitchen. Sabrina has an outburst over his inattention, wondering aloud why Lucus won’t kiss her. Tony speaks up, suggesting Sabrina ask Arelia about it. Does Arelia take this opportunity to speak up? No! This totally annoys me about her character. It makes her much less appealing.
Arelia tries to distract Sabrina with the mention of food, but Sabrina doesn’t buy it. She questions Arelia about what exactly Tony meant. Does Arelia take this chance? No again.
Arelia decides it’s time to share her and Tony’s past with Sabrina, and she pretty much claims that Tony is jealous. This is so cowardly! Sabrina asks Arelia if she still has feelings for Tony, and then proceeds to ask one last time about whether anything is going on between Arelia and Lucus. What does Arelia say???

“I’m being polite. That’s all,”…

UGH!! I’m really not liking Arelia right now! Is she getting on anyone else’s nerves?

Sabrina is easily fooled, though. She starts whining aloud about who will take care of her if Lucus never falls in love with her. Arelia now decides she’s going to show Sabrina some sympathy. Sabrina’s parents are pretty much non-existent with their never-ending search for Vanessa. Vanessa was Sabrina’s sister. It’s presumed she died in Morocco, but no body has ever been found. Sabrina’s mother has made it her life’s mission to find Vanessa, and at the expense of Sabrina.
Arelia figures it’s best to reassure Sabrina that Lucus will fall in love with her.
