Title: Verum

Series: The Nocte Trilogy #2

Author: Courtney Cole

Publication Date: Feb. 2, 2015

Genre: New Adult Psychological Suspense

The truth shall set you free.

My name is Calla Price and I’m drowning.

My new world is a dark, dark ocean and I’m being pulled under by secrets.

Can I trust anyone? I don’t know anymore.

The lies are spirals. They twist and turn, binding me with their thorns and serpentine tongues. And just when I think I have it figured out, everything is pulled out from under me.

I’m entangled in the darkness.

But the truth will set me free.

It’s just ahead of me, so close I can touch it. But even though it shines and glimmers, it has glistening fangs and I know it will shred me.

Are you scared?

I am.

My ****4.5**** Star Review

Have you read my review for Nocte yet? If not, HERE it is.

You should read it if you’re looking for my review for Verum because this book is a whole lot of what the first book was. Except, you can expect to be even more thoroughly confused! A WHOLE LOT more confused. This book made zero sense, and yet I know it will make complete sense.

I have to warn you, though, that it is completely maddening. COMPLETELIY!!! I wanted to get on here and give it a 3 star rating just for driving me CRAZY. Uh, it’s a good thing this is just a trilogy because I don’t think I can take much more!!

Nonetheless, if you loved the mind freak that Nocte was, you can expect nothing less from this book!

Happy Reading,

Alison

Review ~ Nocte by Courtney Cole

Title: Nocte

Series: The Nocte Trilogy #1

Author: Courtney Cole

Publication Date: Nov. 3, 2014

Genre: Contemporary New Adult Psychological Mystery

My name is Calla Price. I’m eighteen years old, and I’m one half of a whole. My other half– my twin brother, my Finn– is crazy. I love him. More than life, more than anything. And even though I’m terrified he’ll suck me down with him, no one can save him but me. I’m doing all I can to stay afloat in a sea of insanity, but I’m drowning more and more each day. So I reach out for a lifeline. Dare DuBray. He’s my savior and my anti-Christ. His arms are where I feel safe, where I’m afraid, where I belong, where I’m lost. He will heal me, break me, love me and hate me. He has the power to destroy me. Maybe that’s ok. Because I can’t seem to save Finn and love Dare without everyone getting hurt. Why? Because of a secret. A secret I’m so busy trying to figure out, that I never see it coming. You won’t either.

My *****5 Star***** Review

I really don’t have a whole lot to say about this book. You’ll make hoards of guesses. They’ll all be wrong. Then you’ll make more, and they’ll be wrong, too. You aren’t meant to figure it out and you won’t.

You’ll get sucked into the romance, and you’ll feel dread for what’s coming. You just have no idea what’s coming. Then, even after you know, you don’t. You don’t know ANYTHING!

You won’t even know WHO is and WHO isn’t. But, you’ll be DYING to know. This book is almost unreviewable because of the fact that you won’t know ANYTHING.

Oh, but then the ending and you get some answers, but then a cliffhanger that will leave you scrambling for more. But, it’s all still WHACKED!

I highly recommend this to any Never Never fans, or to those of you that love a good psychological mystery with a romantic bent.

Alison

Stacking the Shelves #18

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

So, here’s the books I picked up this week:

verum

pink

fueled

monster

Turns out that Amazon has recently pulled Monster Stepbrother for content. That so seriously ticks me off! I’ve already read it, and can guarantee that there are other books selling on Amazon with much darker scenes. As a matter of fact, the opening scenes of Fueled are so dark that I wanted to vomit! It’s crazy how they can pick and choose. Seems like you’d leave that up to the customers! We’re intelligent enough to decide what we want!

Okay. I’m done with my rant. What did y’all pick up this week??

Happy Reading,

Alison

Fractured

I also purchased these kindle books:

mud

I finished reading Mud Vein yesterday (review coming soon), and I must admit to HATING this book while loving it. Someone please tell me if I’ll feel the same way after reading her Love Me with Lies series.

keatyn

I had already read the first 4 books in this series, but with it being only 99 cents, it was a deal to get the rest of the series this way. I finished reading Adore Me yesterday so you can expect a review soon.

beautiful

I devoured this the night of its release. I loved Thomas’s story! Watch for the review soon!

This will probably be the next book I start. I’ve only read one Courtney Cole book, but it’s stuck with me enough that I can still remember it 100 books later. I don’t know why I haven’t gotten to more of her books. I guess it goes back to the usual more books than time.

You can also check out my Kindle Freebies post HERE to see what freebies I picked up.

So, what new books did you stack your shelves with this week?

Happy Reading,

Review ~ Before We Fall (The Beautifully Broken Series: Book 3)

Before We

Synopsis

In the bestselling tradition of J.A. Redmerski and Jessica Sorensen come the next novel in Courtney Cole’s New York Times bestselling Beautifully Broken Series…

Sometimes before we fall . . . we fly.

One dark moment was all it took to turn twenty-four-year-old Dominic Kinkaide’s world black. On the night of his high school graduation, a single incident changed him forever, and he became a hardened man-famous in the eyes of the world, but tortured inside. Now all he cares about is losing himself in the roles that he plays.

At twenty-three years old, Jacey Vincent doesn’t realize how much her father’s indifference has affected her. She is proof that sometimes it isn’t one specific moment that wrecks a person, but an absence of moments. She tries to find acceptance in the arms of men to fill the void-a plan that has worked just fine for her, until she meets Dominic.

When jaded Dominic and strong-willed Jacey are thrown together, the combination of his secrets and her issues turns their attraction into the perfect storm. It could change their lives for good-if it doesn’t tear them both apart . . .

My *****4.5 Star Review*****

This is my first Courtney Cole book, but it definitely won’t be my last! From that statement alone, you should be able to grasp the fact that while this is the third book in a series, it’s still great as a stand-alone.

Jacey has a void in her heart left by her father; one she’s tried to fill with other men. It hasn’t worked out so great for her, though. So, she’s determined to stop. She didn’t anticipate Dominic, though, and he’s the one person that can thwart her plans. I really wish Jacey would have had just a little bit more self-control, but at the same time it was completely understandable.

Dominic is all kinds of messed up (not quite 50 Shades, but close). He’s one of those men that it seems close to impossible to turn down, and unforunately he knows it. Dominic’s so messed up that he takes pleasure in the darker side of things simply because he doesn’t think he’s worthy of anything good. Those of you that enjoy a little BDSM in your stories will not be disappointed. But, that’s not really what he wants with Jacey.

I feel the need to point out that there was a bit of twist to the story, too. It’s one that I just really didn’t see coming. I actually thought that there was an editing issue early on in the story, but I was just wrong. I always love it when an author can throw something at me that I didn’t expect.

The greatest thing about this book is the emotions that it evokes – dark, raw, and painful. You’ll want more, though. Then you have a beautiful ending to seal it all together. This is one of those stories that you will put your life on hold for and want to pick back up again after you’ve finished.
Warnings: Not for the faint of heart! Strong Language, Sexual Content including BDSM scenes – NOT for minors!!

About the Author ~ Courtney Cole

Courtney Cole

Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could.

She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds.

Every Last Kiss is her debut novel and she followed it with the rest of The Bloodstone Saga (Every Last Kiss, Fated, With My Last Breath and My Tattered Bonds).

Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.
