Top 5 Tuesday ~ Top 5 Series I Want to Start
Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme started by Shanah at Bionic Book Worm.
How are y’all doing this fine Tuesday? It seems like all my local friends are bummed right now. We had hoped here in Louisiana that we’d be freed from quarantine on the 30th, but yesterday our governor extended this another half a month. Personally I’ve been doing okay with all of this, but even those of us that are dealing well can’t help but feel the stress of it all. Hence all my moody reading lately! How are things around you?
Today’s Top 5 Tuesday topic is Top 5 Series I Want to Start.
Ali’s December 2019 Monthly Wrap-Up
Linking up with Monthly Wrap-Up Round Up at Feed Your Fiction Addiction.
December was a bizarre reading month for me with the holidays. I can’t believe I read 15 books (16 really because The Maysen Jar Box Set has 2 books in it)! I was a reading machine at the beginning of the month, but I got very little reading done the last two weeks of the month since I had family and friends over nonstop.

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organise yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment and er… add to your groaning TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started on J Kaye’s blog and then was hosted by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at The Book Date. Jen Vincent, Teach Mentor Texts, and Kellee of Unleashing Readers decided to give It’s Monday! a kidlit focus. If you read and review books in children’s literature – picture books, chapter books, middle grade novels, young adult novels or anything in those genres – join them.

Review ~ Heat of Passion (Out of Uniform #2)
Heat of Passion by Elle Kennedy
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Heat of Passion is a short, steamy novella. It’s the second in a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. Navy SEAL Carson Scott is attending a bachelor/bachelorette party for Garrett and Shelby (from the 1st book). Carson is standing around talking with his SEAL buddies when “Jessica” a petite brunette walks up looking for a dancing partner. It’s not long before Carson find himself in a supply closet with her having the best sex of his life. She disappears, though, as soon as the deed is done. This leaves Carson contemplating his lifestyle and brings him to the decision that it’s time to grow up. No more one-night stands and wild flings for him.
One month later he’s on the beach as Garrett’s best man. He glances over where the reception is being set up to find none other than “Jessica”, who turns out to really be Holly. They talk after the wedding, both admitting that the night at the club had left a strong impression on them. Carson wants a relationship, though, and Holly just wants a fling. Holly is tired of being the good girl she’s always been. Can Carson help her embrace this bad girl side while being committed to a relationship with him?
My Thoughts:
I really would have loved to read this as a full-length novel. I enjoyed the characters and the plot as they were- I just wanted more details. There’s a lot of sex in the book, but not the kind of thing you’d find in say a 50 Shades book. I would have liked to see stronger characters and a stronger plot to balance it. I’m looking forward to what Elle comes up with next.
A RITA-award nominated author, Elle Kennedy grew up in the suburbs of Toronto, Ontario, and holds a B.A. in English from York University. From an early age, she knew she wanted to be a writer, and actively began pursuing that dream when she was a teenager.
Elle currently publishes with Harlequin Romantic Suspense, Harlequin Blaze, Samhain Publishing, and NAL. She loves strong heroines and sexy alpha heroes, and just enough heat and danger to keep things interesting!
Happy Reading,
Alison
