Friday Finds 11/13/20

Happy Friday!! I hope you have all had a wonderful week. My FIL had to have another surgery this morning, but it went well. He’s just in a lot of pain right now.

My mom hurt her back while helping her brother, and then fell down her porch steps yesterday to add insult to injury. Needless to say, she’s in a lot of pain right now, too. As is my brother who’s still recovering from his accident.

On a positive note, I am really loving our fall weather right now, and the fact that I’m getting some free time to relax and do a little blogging.

Here’s what I added to the TBR this week ~

Friday Finds 10/9/20

Happy Friday! I hope you are all having a great week. It’s been a whopper for us here. I have been dealing with a severe migraine, my hubby’s truck broke down, and his father is in the hospital with what appears to be cancer that has spread into his brain. And today we have another hurricane coming through. We are in the northwest part of Louisiana, though, so it looks like we’ll just be getting some rain. Fingers crossed!

Here are some of my TBR adds this week. The title links will take you to Goodreads, and I’m also linking up to other bloggers/booktubers, etc. whose reviews, comments, or posts encouraged me to give these a try! Sharing some blogger love!! Happy Friday!! I hope y’all are having a fabulous start to your weekend!

My mom, my kids, and I are doing a little holiday decorating today. My daughter and I got our first Halloween movie in yesterday. We watched Coco. It’s a cute Dia de Muertos movie. And if you want to read a book that fits the theme, then I recommend Cemetery Boys!

Thirty-Two Going On Spinster by Becky Monson pub. December 11, 2012

Blogger: Lisa’s Books Gems and Tarot

Julia Dorning is a spinster, or at least on the road to becoming one. She has no social life, hates her job, and lives in her parent’s basement with her cat, Charlie.

With the arrival of Jared Moody, the new hire at work, Julia’s mundane life is suddenly turned upside down. Her instant (and totally ridiculous) crush on the new guy causes Julia to finally make some long-overdue changes, in hopes to find a life that includes more than baking and hanging out with Charlie.

But when the biggest and most unexpected change comes, will the new and improved Julia be able to overcome it? Or will she go back to her spinster ways?

Accidentally in Love by Belinda Missen pub. September 11, 2020

Blogger: One Book More

In the space of a week, Katharine Patterson has quit her job, decided to move back home, and broken up with the guy she thought was the one.

No big deal.

Because Katharine has a plan. She’s going to open her own art gallery, just like she’s always wanted. What she’s not going to do is worry about boyfriends.

Then she meets Kit, a handsome and talented local artist. He might be the most stubborn person Katharine has ever met. He might also make her feel like no one ever has before.

And Katharine might be about to fall accidentally in love… Continue reading

The Sound by Sarah Alderson pub. August 1, 2013

Blogger: Lost in Neverland

When aspiring music journalist Ren Kingston takes a job nannying for a wealthy family on the exclusive island of Nantucket, playground for Boston’s elite, she’s hoping for a low-key summer reading books and blogging about bands. Boys are firmly off the agenda.

What she doesn’t count on is falling in with a bunch of party-loving private school kids who are hiding some dark secrets, falling (possibly) in love with the local bad boy, and falling out with a dangerous serial killer…

Meet Me at Midnight by Jessica Pennington pub. April 7, 2020

Blogger: Lost in Neverland

They have a love-hate relationship with summer.

Sidney and Asher should have clicked. Two star swimmers forced to spend their summers on a lake together sounds like the perfect match. But it’s the same every year—in between cookouts and boat rides and family-imposed bonfires, Sidney and Asher spend the dog days of summer finding the ultimate ways to prank each other. And now, after their senior year, they’re determined to make it the most epic summer yet.

But their plans are thrown in sudden jeopardy when their feud causes their families to be kicked out of their beloved lake houses. Once in their new accommodations, Sidney expects the prank war to continue as usual. But then she gets a note—Meet me at midnight. And Asher has a proposition for her: join forces for one last summer of epic pranks, against a shared enemy—the woman who kicked them out.

Their truce should make things simpler, but six years of tormenting one another isn’t so easy to ignore. Kind of like the undeniable attraction growing between them.

The Day We Meet Again by Miranda Dickinson pub. September 5, 2019

Blogger: It’s All About Books

‘We’ll meet again at St Pancras station, a year from today. If we’re meant to be together, we’ll both be there. If we’re not, it was never meant to be . . .’

Phoebe and Sam meet by chance at St Pancras station. Heading in opposite directions, both seeking their own adventures, meeting the love of their lives wasn’t part of the plan. So they make a promise: to meet again in the same place in twelve months’ time if they still want to be together.

But is life ever as simple as that?

This is a story of what-ifs and maybes – and how one decision can change your life forever…

Fangs by Sarah Andersen pub. July 2, 2020

Blogger: Bookshelf Life

A love story between a vampire and a werewolf by the creator of the enormously popular Sarah’s Scribbles comics.

Elsie the vampire is three hundred years old, but in all that time, she has never met her match. This all changes one night in a bar when she meets Jimmy, a charming werewolf with a wry sense of humor and a fondness for running wild during the full moon. Together they enjoy horror films and scary novels, shady strolls, fine dining (though never with garlic), and a genuine fondness for each other’s unusual habits, macabre lifestyles, and monstrous appetites.

First featured as a webcomic series on Tapas, Fangs chronicles the humor, sweetness, and awkwardness of meeting someone perfectly suited to you but also vastly different. Filled with Sarah Andersen’s beautiful gothic illustrations and relatable relationship humor, Fangs has all the makings of a cult classic.

Not Your #Lovestory by Sonia Hartl exp. pub. Sept 1, 2020

Blogger: We Live and Breathe Books

#PlaneBae meets Gilmore Girls in this hilarious and heartfelt story about the addictiveness of Internet fame and the harsh realities of going viral.

Macy Evans dreams of earning enough income from her YouTube channel, R3ntal Wor1d, to leave her small, Midwestern town. But when she meets a boy named Eric at a baseball game, and accidently dumps her hotdog in his lap, her disastrous “meet-cute” becomes the topic of a viral thread. Now it’s not loyal subscribers flocking to her channel, it’s Internet trolls. And they aren’t interested in her reviews of VHS tapes—they only care about her relationship with Eric.

Eric is overly eager to stretch out his fifteen minutes of fame, but Macy fears this unwanted attention could sabotage her “real-life” relationships—namely with the shy boy-next-door, Paxton, who she’s actually developing feelings for. Macy knows she should shut the lie down, though she can’t ignore the advertising money, or the spark she gets in her chest whenever someone clicks on her videos. Eric shouldn’t be the only one allowed to reap the viral benefits. But is faking a relationship for clicks and subscribers worth hurting actual people?

The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall pub. June 14, 2005

Blogger: A Blonde, A Book, And a Blanket

The Penderwick sisters busily discover the summertime magic of Arundel estate’s sprawling gardens, treasure-filled attic, tame rabbits, and the cook who makes the best gingerbread in Massachusetts. Best of all is Jeffrey Tifton, son of Arundel’s owner, the perfect companion for their adventures. Icy-hearted Mrs. Tifton is less pleased with the Penderwicks than Jeffrey, and warns the new friends to stay out of trouble. Is that any fun? For sure the summer will be unforgettable.
