Wild at Heart ~ Review

Title: Wild at Heart
Series: Wild #2
Author: K.A. Tucker
Release Date: Feb 18, 2020
Genres: Contemporary Romance
Blurb: From the internationally best-selling author of The Simple Wild comes the continuation of a woman’s journey to Alaska and a life she never imagined for herself.

Calla Fletcher returns to Toronto a different person, struggling to find direction and still very much in love with the rugged bush pilot she left behind. When Jonah arrives on her doorstep with a proposition she can’t dismiss, she takes the leap and rushes back to Alaska to begin their exciting future together.

But Calla soon learns that even the best intentions can lead to broken promises, and that compromise comes with a hefty price—a log cabin in interior rural Alaska that feels as isolating as the western tundra.

With Jonah gone more than he’s home, one neighbor who insists on transforming her into a true Alaskan, and another who seems more likely to shoot her than come to her aid, Calla grapples with forging her own path. In a world with roaming wildlife that has her constantly watching over her shoulder and harsh conditions that stretch far beyond the cold, dark, winter months, just stepping outside her front door can be daunting.

This is not the future Calla had in mind, leaving her to fear that perhaps she is doomed to follow in her mother’s fleeing footsteps after all.

WWW Wednesday ~ 3/18/20

Ali here ~

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme is hosted by Taking on a World of Words.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

How are all of you doing out there today??? I live in the woods but the two closest cities to me, Shreveport and Bossier, both have coronavirus cases, so things have been locked down tight here. Our busiest streets now look like ghost towns. My mother is a nurse at a hospital in Shreveport and in the thick of things. She’s high risk herself at 61 (62 in a few weeks), but she’s a real trooper.

Overall, I’m feeling pretty blessed right now. I have all my needs and those of my immediate family met. But, I keep thinking of all the people that live paycheck to paycheck and might be really struggling right now, those with anxiety/depression, etc. All I can do is pray, but I hate saying “all” like it’s not much because I truly believe in the power of prayer. So, if you’re feeling anxious or alone, scared or depressed, etc., and need someone to vent to, someone to pray for you, I just wanted to say that I’d love to pray for you or be someone to talk to. We all have to lean on each other. We’re all in this together. Know you’re not alone.

Review ~ Ten Tiny Breaths

Title: Ten Tiny Breaths

Series: Ten Tiny Breaths #1

Author: K.A. Tucker

Date Published: Dec. 11, 2012

Genre: Contemporary New Adult Romance

Kacey Cleary’s whole life imploded four years ago in a drunk-driving accident. Now she’s working hard to bury the pieces left behind—all but one. Her little sister, Livie. Kacey can swallow the constant disapproval from her born-again aunt Darla over her self-destructive lifestyle; she can stop herself from going kick-boxer crazy on Uncle Raymond when he loses the girls’ college funds at a blackjack table. She just needs to keep it together until Livie is no longer a minor, and then they can get the hell out of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

But when Uncle Raymond slides into bed next to Livie one night, Kacey decides it’s time to run. Armed with two bus tickets and dreams of living near the coast, Kacey and Livie start their new lives in a Miami apartment complex, complete with a grumpy landlord, a pervert upstairs, and a neighbor with a stage name perfectly matched to her chosen “profession.” But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle all of them. What she can’t handle is Trent Emerson in apartment 1D.

Kacey doesn’t want to feel. She doesn’t. It’s safer that way. For everyone. But sexy Trent finds a way into her numb heart, reigniting her ability to love again. She starts to believe that maybe she can leave the past where it belongs and start over. Maybe she’s not beyond repair.

But Kacey isn’t the only one who’s broken. Seemingly perfect Trent has an unforgiveable past of his own; one that, when discovered, will shatter Kacey’s newly constructed life and send her back into suffocating darkness.

My ****4.5**** Star Review

So, I didn’t love the start of this book. It took me a little while to connect to Kacey, especially when she was making some stupid mistakes. I did completely respect her strong will to take care of her sister, however. The only good parts in the beginning were the few glimpses of Trent.

But, shortly thereafter, I was giddy. Trent completely sucked me in! Trent had me laughing. He had me swooning! Oh, and laughing some more.

Then, I started seeing that this was more than a simple romance. There was a mystery to be solved, and it was very suspenseful and angst-filled. Trent started acting a little shady, but you could see his heart. Then comes the shocker, if you don’t figure it out. It was one of my guesses, but I didn’t have it pinpointed.

Nonetheless, I became engrossed in the story and the drama. I even fell for the side characters so I’m really looking forward to the other books written in this series. It’s definitely one to read if you’re into contemporary new adult romance! This was my first K.A. Tucker, but it definitely won’t be my last.

Happy Reading,

Alison
