Synopsis

I lived in paradise, and I loved Spencer Pierce.

At fourteen, my life was perfect. The beach was my playground, and the boy who stole my heart lived just around the corner. But perfect never lasts. In one horrifying moment, I lost it all. My family was destroyed, and the boy I believed in turned his back on me. Paradise became a nightmare.

That was five years ago. Everything changed when we moved from our home by the sea. I’ve changed, and I don’t like who I’ve become. I miss the smiling, carefree beach girl who disappeared that terrible night. I want to find her again. I want to face the people we ran from so long ago. Most of all, I have to face Spencer. So I can prove that when he broke my heart, he didn’t break me.

But when I see him again, Spencer Pierce is no longer the boy from my memories. He’s now a man who could devastate me if I let him. He watches me when he thinks I’m not looking. There’s regret written on his face when he’s near. Each time I see him, my heart aches for what might have been, and I think his does too. How can I convince myself I’m over him when I suspect he never got over me?

~ This is a standalone story. ~

5 Star Review

I’ve read over a hundred books this year, and this book ranks right up with the best of them! This is one of those books that once you start, you won’t want to put it down! I plowed through the pages! I felt like I was on an emotional rollercoaster with characters that endure some VERY dark and trying times. If you haven’t checked out one of Debra Doxer’s books, then I HIGHLY recommend this one! If I had to pick some stories to relate it to so you’d have an idea if you might like it, I’d go with Sorensen’s Callie & Kayden series or Hoover’s Hopeless. You get that same romance amid the darkness, and this story is equally well-written as the others I mentioned.

You’re introduced to the two main characters while they are still young, but the story carries you through to the new adult stage. You’ll encounter sex, strong language, abuse, murder, and let’s not forget love. Spencer is one amazing guy. He’s an overcomer and your heart will go out to him and all he has to endure.
Sarah is a fighter. She has a strong sense of right and wrong, and she will fight for what is right. But, she’s growing up to and realizing that there can be serious consequences to her decisions that can affect more than just her.

The only complaint I have is that the story ended. I could have read more and more and more about Sarah and Spencer. As a matter of fact, I wrote Debra and informed her of just a couple of the many questions I thought she should answer in a sequel. As of right now, she has no plans to write this sequel, BUT she did say you never know. You get a closure at the end, but you will be left with questions. Hopefully they won’t drive you as crazy as they’ve driven me, or maybe they will. Isn’t that a sign that it’s a good book?!? Nevertheless, Debra is currently working on her next book, and I look forward to reading it, no matter what it is!

Oh, and P.S., I LOVE the cover!
