Teaser Tuesdays #7

teaser free-clip-art

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Today my teaser is from ~ Pursuit of the Raven (The Union Series #3) by Shawn Reilly

Pursuit of the Raven

She had to get out. She had to stop them before either of them got hurt. At the thought of Asher and Julio going at it, a horrifying image flashed in her mind…of Julio’s blade.

There’s my teaser! I’m enjoying watching this series play out! Shawn originally intended this series to be for TV rather than print, but it makes for an interesting read with an intricately woven plot. Then you add in the Lake brothers, and well, hmmm…you don’t know what you’re missing!

What’s your teaser this Tuesday??

Happy Reading,

Review ~ Legend of the Raven (The Union Series #2)

add to goodreads

When Elle Ison finally flees from a five-year abusive relationship, she finds that freedom is still just beyond her grasp. She has no place to run, no money and no options.
That is until a band of mysterious, good-looking heroes come to her rescue, sweeping Elle up into the world of ani-shifts, humans with the ability to shift into animal form. Elle becomes mesmerized by the magic of their world—one she believed only existed in her imagination—and the mystery surrounding the Lake family. Especially the intimidating Asher Lake who is charged with leading the secret organization of shifters known as the Union, and the protégés left in his care.
Elle is lost and lonely—and wants nothing more than to be part of a real family, even one as broken and dysfunctional as the Lakes. But if Elle chooses to stay, she must bind herself all over again—this time by archival laws which dictate that she make a commitment to a man who has vowed never to fall in love. For Elle, this means forfeiting the one dream she has never realized.
Elle must weigh her options: should she give in and relinquish her right to dream of love…or will she leave the safety of Lake Manor behind, along with the family she has come to care for—and never look back.

My Strong ****4 STAR**** Review

If you haven’t already read Call of the Raven, then check out my book review on it HERE. You’ll want to read it first, since Legend of the Raven picks up where it left off. Plus, there are a lot of references to what happened in the first book, so you’ll be lost!

It’s been a while since I read Call of the Raven. Shawn gave me a copy of this book after I finished the first, but she didn’t give me a deadline on it. I was just getting started in the blogging world at the time, and I saw my schedule filling up quickly. After I saw that I wasn’t going to be able to get to it if it wasn’t added to my schedule, I just added it on there myself because I REALLY wanted to read it. I took a few moments before starting book 2 to see how much I recalled from Call of the Raven. Without thinking about it, I knew I could easily recall the main characters and the heart of the plot, but I was surprised at how many details I could recall. I must admit that I read so many books that I often have a hard time recalling what I read yesterday. That should say something about this story!

So, here’s the deal. If you liked book 1, I cannot imagine you not loving book 2!! You have the same great characters and the plot hasn’t changed. You’re just being carried further into it. Asher is starting to make some changes, and they are big ones. Yet, he’s still the same Asher I fell in love with in book 1. He doesn’t just become a different Asher overnight. You get to slowly see the progress he’s making in becoming a better leader, brother, and father figure. You also get to see a cautious change in his attitude on love. But again, his changes are slow and suttle and make sense. I love that!

So, of course, I was left with another “AHHHHHH!!!!!!” moment when the story ended. Another big cliffhanger!!! That’ll be the case on through book 6. If you’re like me and just getting to book 2 – don’t worry – book 3 is already out. Shawn’s already released the first 4 books and book 5 will be out in the next few weeks. Book 6 will be shortly behind that. I cannot wait!!

*I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.*

About the Author ~ Shawn Reilly

When it seemed like I was only an F away from flunking out of the sixth grade, a retired school teacher took me under her wing. After some tutoring and testing, she informed my parents that the reason I was having trouble in school wasn’t because I was dumb but instead dyslexic.
When my stepfather heard this, he decided to take me to a used bookstore with the belief that the best way to improve my reading skills was to read. Some of the books were hard to get through at first, but with his encouragement I refused to give up. We made many trips to that bookstore, and I especially loved the science fiction and fantasy sections.
Then one day, after complaining about the ending of a particular book, he told me that if I didn’t like the books that I had been reading, then to write one myself—so I did. My first attempt resulted in a horribly written western when I was fourteen, staring a cocky gun slinging cowboy by the name Curt Calhoun. Curt along with his seven brothers, who all shared C names in common, may never have seen the pages of a book, but that was the day I started writing, and never stopped.
I have over fifty books on my computer which I’ve written in various genres, all of which are waiting to come to life. Even though my ability to write has improved over the years, I am humble enough to admit that I cannot venture on this journey alone
Sincerely yours, Shawn Reilly
